TOPAZ is sized for small to medium environments to perform e�cient �le based archiving and content management
(CMS). With active integration to various end-points including video servers and NLE’s it is the ideal entry
level framework for automated work�ows in Playout, Production, Newsrooms and with 3rd party MAM systems.
TOPAZ is packaged for out-of-the-box operation including hardware, software, installation and �rst year’s
support. Suitable for small to average sized facilities, TOPAZ is easy to implement and comes complete with
Fee-FREE unlimited storage licensing.
TOPAZ is upgradable to Masstech’s next generation INDIGO all-in-one MAM suite, integrating fully with new
media and business systems. TOPAZ o�ers the �exibility of both HSM and Stub File archiving making it ideal for
News Production with systems like Avid Newscutter, iNEWS, Gallery Sienna and AP-ENPS.
TOPAZ connects to all popular archive libraries directly by Fibre Channel using Masstech’s own embedded HSM
robotic controller.

TOPAZ EMBEDDED TRANSCODING ENGINE
TOPAZ is equipped with Masstech’s in house developed Transcode Engine and a full library of format blades.
Designed on the Direct Show platform for �exible blade con�guration and speed, �le transformation occurs
automatically inline to virtually any �le format. This enables you to easily convert and publish new �les in a
wide range of formats and wrappers including MXF, QuickTime, MPEG-PS and TS. Owning the technology means
we can provide some of the best transforming and transcoding tools on the market. Advanced �ltering and
de-interlacing technology assures the highest quality output.

TOPAZ MEDIA FRAMEWORK
TOPAZ will transfer media from anywhere in the environment to the post production system ready for a particular
job. In-line transforming, re-wrapping and transcodes of di�erent �le types are automatically performed so that
content can move between FCP and Avid systems. All the essence media and metadata related to a particular
project is saved in TOPAZ. When required, TOPAZ restores the hi-resolution source material to the NLE keeping all
transfer complexity hidden from the operator. Once editing is complete TOPAZ manages the naming, saving and
transfer of all the new �nished sequences to be ready for presentation, playout and re-purposing.

TOPAZ is built on Masstech’s experience providing digital archiving, automated work�ow solutions, format conversions and sharing of content across IT
storage and networking infrastructures. TOPAZ includes as standard over 150 interfaces and web-based DAM tools for enhanced work�ow productivity
that manages assets from ingest, to playout, to archive library, across NLE’s and storage systems. TOPAZ is scalable and fully upgradeable to INDIGO
MAM. Flexible tape library and disk cache storage options are available. The single server TOPAZ system is an ‘entry level’ system and performance is

TOPAZ COMPANION PRODUCTS:
• XT-INGEST ingest and playback powered by Masstech’s own CUB-1000 board for high quality
ingest that solves interoperability issues. XT-Ingest/PTT completes the work�ow process by
simplifying ingest and content preparation. Operators can ingest and import almost all �le formats
as well as read XDCAM and P2 SD/HD disks, and memory cartridges. XT-Ingest/PTT automates
ingest recording and print to tape utilizing Masstech’s own CUB-1000 encoder and PUB-1000
decoder boards and can also transcode to the formats used in your production systems to allow
immediate content access. XT-Ingest integrates directly with TOPAZ for extended work�ow
e�ciency and consolidated operations.
• XT-EDIT has a modern User Interface with the look and feel of an NLE. Featuring highly customizable
dockable windows, high quality full screen dual monitor support and a tactile USB controller for
VTR like Jog and Shuttle. XT-Edit includes a timeline display with zoom, audio monitoring, audio
scrub, markers, metadata entry, logging, notations, EDL creation and Partial File Extraction (PFE) of
selected shots for upload. Perform virtual editing, browsing, logging, marking and write notations -
ideal for Promos, Standards & Practices, Censorship, Program Preparation and Library user groups.
XT- Edit integrates directly with TOPAZ for extended work�ow e�ciency and consolidated operations.
• COBALTTM real time monitoring system with CEP processing for predictive alarming in �le based
environments. Advanced ‘right-time’ monitoring for predictive alarming in �le-based environments
far exceeds typical SNMP monitoring. This state-of-the-art tool is packed with powerful features
including monitoring of �le systems, CPUs, memory, network connections, network tra�c, transfer
history, bandwidth utilization and much more.
