Houck Co. Cancer Benefi t Raises $19K
Houck Horse Company Cancer Benefi t Race
September 11, 2010, North Branch, MN
Jill and Pete Houck have been putting on a Cancer Benefi t barrel
race for 7 years now. Prior to this year they have tallied up more
than $28,500! This year the benefi t was for Nathan Jensen. Nathan’s
Mom, Trisha Jensen, and Jill have been friends for years. Trisha has
been an avid barrel racer for years and the news of Nathan’s cancer
hit the barrel racing community hard. Nathan’s Grandma, Pat Hicks,
is also a barrel racer. There are not too many barrel races in MN
you won’t fi nd this family at. In fact when they are not running you
will either fi nd them setting a barrel or working in the offi ce. They
are super nice and hard working people.
Saturday was the benefi t for Nathan and the turnout was
GREAT! There were 34 PeeWee barrel racers! Including Nathan
himself. 157 in the open race. A silent auction and live auction were
also held to raise money for the Jensen family. The benefi t raised
$19,010 for the Jensen family! Hats off to Pete and Jill for putting
on such a great event year after year and the barrel racing community
for giving back to a family that has given so much to barrel racing
