NONPOINT SOURCE POLLUTION
In The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana
Islands it rains very much.
When the rain hits the ground, the water picks up
many things such as chemicals, pesticides, oil, dirt,
and waste created from humans and animals.
The water then moves these things downhill.
These things end up in the lakes, lagoons, and
ocean as pollution.
This pollution is called nonpoint source pollution
because it does not get traced back to a particular
point, such as a drain or a pipe.
This pollution is filled with chemicals that can kill
the coral reefs, fish, crabs, seagrass, sea turtles,
and other marine animals.
