Sun Valley <strong>Ski</strong> Trip<br />

Have you ever wanted to have the whole run to yourself so you<br />

can make those wide sweeping turns without the fear of someone<br />

running over you? Well, we almost had that situation on Baldy<br />

Saturday morning. Bert Whistle, our guide, took 26 members<br />

up the gondola for “early ups” at 8:30 am. We skied miles on<br />

groomed runs and played in the “gun powder,” a term coined to<br />

describe the ever-deepening snow made by the 555 snow guns on<br />

Mount Baldy. At 9,150 feet it was a breathtaking view. We even<br />

had pictures taken to prove it. Those who participated<br />

received a breakfast voucher as well.<br />

Everyone said the ski trip was a tremendous success.<br />

With bloody marys on the bus as a wake-up, we were<br />

entertained with a fun raffle that made the time pass<br />

quickly. Friday night, for those who could find the<br />

822-Bitterroot suite, we had a wine and cheese “get-toknow<br />

each other” social gathering. Jim Herwig even<br />

proclaimed, “Hey, it was a great party and they didn’t<br />

run out of wine.” Dave Compton asked later, “Was<br />

there food?”<br />

Most everyone skied or boarded two days but some<br />

went the distance and enjoyed the mountain all three.<br />

A group of hardy Nordic skiers tried out the trails<br />

and lodge at the Sun Valley Nordic Center. “It was<br />

wonderful,” Mischel Vanderbush reported. Other members<br />

shopped, explored the Village and Ketchum; while another group<br />

had a vivacious game of bridge going in their condo suite.<br />

<strong>The</strong> one thing that always impresses me is the excellent service of<br />

all the Sun Valley employees. From the staff in the Duchin Room<br />

to the bell staff, to the housekeeping staff, they were wonderful.<br />

<strong>The</strong> hot pool is always refreshing and a<br />

great place to meet people.<br />

For those of you who didn’t go with<br />

the club this year, I’m sorry you missed<br />

out. I believe from the unanimous<br />

voice on the bus, that the club will do<br />

thank you all who attended. You are what this club is all about.<br />

You have to get involved.<br />

Plan to attend the annual meeting March 18 for a special award<br />

to one of our members who went on the trip.<br />
