EICMA 2011
Each year the EICMA Motorcycle Show in
Milan, Italy dishes up plenty of new bikes
and futuristic machinery to the international
motorcycle crowd, and Husqvarna used
the opportunity to make a splash with a
bold new concept: The MOAB. This 650
scrambler was the proud centerpiece of
the Husky display, with the retro-inspired
styling invoking the legendary image of Steve
McQueen.
The color scheme, right down to every last
detail, both in bodywork and mechanics, is
taken from Steve McQueen’s immortal 400.
The MOAB can trace its origins to our models
from that period, legendary bikes that are offroad
milestones, especially in the U.S. This is
one reason for the name MOAB – after the
evocative desert in Utah which every year
draws huge numbers of off-road bikers.
Its design follows the lead of the latest
generation Husqvarna models, including the
concave shape of the fenders, and unique
front number plate. Tradition and high-tech
innovation blend successfully with unique
details like the digital instrument panel
situated in the upper crossbar, the LEDs on
the front number holder and the tail light.
nuda? nuda?
husqvarna Italy unveiled another innovative
piece – this one off the assembly line and
not a concept platform. the nuda 900 has
entered production and has many asking
if this hybrid supermoto/naked bike will
reach north american shores. there are no
plans at this point, but the nuda 900 and
900r are further evidence of ideas evolving
at husky. keep your eyes peeled for more!
How many cc’s does it
take to win an enduro
2 world cHampionsHip?
Most would say 450, but Husqvarna
proved that 310 can do the trick… in fact,
it can do it with two rounds to spare!
Husqvarna celebrated its first
World Enduro Championship
title of 2011 with Antoine Meo on
September 4 at the GP of Andorra,
and a second WEC title with Juha
Salminen at the GP of France.
Through two flawless performances
at the GP of Andorra – the WEC’s
penultimate event – Meo became the
first rider of 2011 to be crowned Enduro
World Champion! The Frenchman
piloted his Husqvarna TE310 against
rivals aboard more powerful 450cc
machines in the premier E2 division, and
claimed his second-career WEC title
with Husqvarna.
“It’s difficult to explain how I feel,”
said Meo. “I’m overjoyed that all the hard
work that everyone on the team has put
in this year has resulted in this title.”
Throughout seven two-day events in
2011, Meo claimed seven day-victories,
and only finished off the podium once.
“Finishing races and being consistent
is what winning championships is all
Claiming two world titles in
a single season is quite an
accomplishment – wrapping
them both up before the end of
the series is a statement.
about. I’m so happy to have won the
Enduro 2 world title. It’s fantastic.”
At the final event of the Enduro
World Championship – the GP of
France – it was Salminen’s turn to
celebrate a championship. The Finnish
enduro phenom rode to victory in the
E1 division aboard a TE250, taking
the championship after day one of the
French event.
The former two-time GNCC
champion now has eight WEC personal
championships under his belt, and his
most recent title marked Husqvarna’s
80th world racing title! Husqvarna also
claimed the manufacturers titles in both
the E1 and E2 divisions in 2011
through Meo and Salminen’s wins.
“This has been a fantastic season
for us in so many ways,” said
Husqvarna Racing coordinator
Martino Bianchi. “The most
important thing is that we proved
the competitiveness and reliability
of both the TE250 and TE310.
This is a great time for Husqvarna and
for everyone in the company, as well as
for the CH Racing Team and all of their
partners. It’s been a long and challenging
season and now it’s time to enjoy what we
have achieved and celebrate!”
