derzelver zaadhuisjes en ijernesten; Two vols in one. 169, [4], 167, [4] p., 29 plates of which 27 are hand coloured,
edges with wear due to use, but spine is complete and binding is tight. Old library ex libris at verso front cover. A few pages
with some faint foxing but the great majority of pages and all plates clean. Baster's book appeared in six instalments, each
with a separate title-page which were often discarded when bound (they are not present in this copy), and replaced by two
general title-pages for the volumes (as in this copy).
Baster's book has become famous for being one of the first describing and depicting a local marine fauna, and including the
smaller, less obvious animals in his works. His book has become very rare, and we have the pleasure to offer a first Dutch
edition (dated 1762-1765, but actually appeared between 1759 and 1765) with almost all plates hand coloured.
We also have on offer the work by Slabber (1769-1778) who followed in Baster's footsteps; please inquire.
