2. Adoption of <strong>Minutes</strong> the 24th <strong>General</strong> <strong>Assembly</strong> 1998 in Barcelona, Spain<br />

With regard to point 9 (expulsion of members), Mario Sperenzi (Italy) wished to remark that some<br />

delegates abstained from voting on the expulsion of France.<br />

As the Protocol was send to all members two months before the GA and no comments or proposals<br />

were received by the secretariat, the Protocol was declared to be unanimously adopted.<br />

3. Report of the president<br />

The report of the president is enclosed. There were no questions or comments.<br />

In addition to the report, Klaus-Jürgen Weber (Germany), leader of the project Intercultural <strong>Music</strong><br />

Education in Europe, reported on the 1 phase in Berlin. A written report on this phase was distributed.<br />

4. Financial report 1998<br />

b. financial situation 1999<br />

A financial report on the year 1998 and a review of the financial situation 1999 was sent to all<br />

members. No questions or additions were made during the GA.<br />

On behalf of the Auditor’s Committee, Hans Brupbacher reported proper accounting, with all entries<br />

concurring with receipts. He proposed that the <strong>General</strong> <strong>Assembly</strong> approve of the financial report 1998.<br />

The <strong>General</strong> <strong>Assembly</strong> unanimously adopted this proposal.<br />

5. Reports of working group leaders<br />

The reports of the following working groups are enclosed.<br />

Working group 1 “International Affairs”(President: Josef Frommelt)<br />

Working group 2 “Pedagogic and Research” (Dr. Gerd Eicker<br />

Working group 3 “Public Relations (Nuria Sempere)<br />

Working group 4 “Statistics” (Ib Planck Larssen)<br />

Working group 5 “Internal Affairs” (Timo Veijola)<br />

5.A Discussion on “Requests of the Weimar Declaration”<br />

A lively discussion ensued. The various proposals and remarks on, for instance, the apparent tendency<br />

in some countries of music schools to broaden their activities and evolve into art schools, were written<br />

down. It was decided to discuss them in a separate workshop on Saturday.<br />

6. Discharge of the Presidium<br />

The Presidium was unanimously relieved of its responsibilities for the business year 1998.<br />

7. Election of new Presidium<br />

A proposal by the Presidium was sent to the delegates together with the invitation to the <strong>General</strong><br />

<strong>Assembly</strong>. Moreover, Finland proposed Timo Veijola as a candidate for the vice-presidency and<br />

Sovenia proposed Viktor Zadnik as a candidate for membership of the Presidium. In consequence,<br />

elections were held.<br />

Jan van Muilekom was elected President by acclamation.<br />

Both Gerd Eicker (Germany) and Timo Veijola (Finland) were candidates for the office of Vice
