DOUBTFUL PARENTS PLEASE READ!
T^HE organisers of the D.H.O. Training Scheme
find it difficult to convince some parents that
participation in the scheme will neither break all
their child's limbs nor ruin its holiday by regimentation.
The first doubt can be countered by
quoting the excellent record
as regards accidents,
and in an attempt to deal
with the second a letter
was sent to the parents
of all the 1954/55 trainees
asking them: (1) whether
their offspring had enjoyed
the training as
much as an ordinary
holiday; (2) whether it
was felt that the training
schedule was too
strenuous; and (3) what
they considered the
approximate percentage
improvement in ski-ing after the D.H.O. training
Most surprisingly, every single parent replied,
and it is a pity that we have not space to print
their letters in full. All the answers to Question
1 were in the affirmative (the majority being most
enthusiastically affirmative)
and the replies to
Question 2 indicated
approval of the present
schedule, although one
parent added that it
should not be made any
more strenuous; a point
that has been noted by
the organisers. Estimates
against Question 3 varied
from 20% up to 'over
100%' improvement. One
parent gave it as 20%
improvement in speed
and 40% in style.
