AUSTRALIAN GUILD OF MUSIC EDUCATION<br />
RHYTHM. To clap or tap a short two bar phrase played twice by the Examiner. No note value smaller<br />
than a crotchet.<br />
PITCH. To state which is the higher or lower <strong>of</strong> any two notes played consecutively by the Examiner. Not<br />
less than a THIRD apart.<br />
First time f forte. Within the octave above middle C.<br />
Second time p piano.. Within the octave below middle C.<br />
NOTE:- The ear tests in the three Step examinations are basically the same and are designed to cumulatively<br />
train and reinforce the student's listening skills. This concept is further strengthened in the Grade One Ear<br />
Tests.<br />
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE. (7 Marks)<br />
All rudiments as set for Steps One and Two as follows:-<br />
The Brace, Bar lines, Double Bar-line, Stave <strong>of</strong> staff, Clefs, Semibreves, Minimums and Crotchets.<br />
Simple time, the function <strong>of</strong> a dot after a note, a sharp, a flat and the natural signs. Simple dynamic signs<br />
such as crescendo and decrescendo, diminuendo, p. mp. f . mf.<br />
In addition, Key Signatures, Triplets, tones and semitones and all signs and terms found in the examination<br />
pieces.<br />
The outline given is a guide to the candidate. The Examiner nay choose to ask any reasonable question<br />
relative to the Step in order to reach an assessment.<br />
