ADVANCING <strong>Avila</strong><br />

<strong>Avila</strong> Answers Call for Nursing<br />

<strong>Avila</strong> <strong>University</strong> has committed<br />

to exp<strong>an</strong>d the School of Nursing<br />

to allow <strong>an</strong>nual adm<strong>is</strong>sion of 50<br />

new <strong>student</strong>s entering their junior<br />

year. The project <strong>is</strong> in response<br />

to a growing shortage of nurses<br />

nationally that will approach<br />

800,000 by 2020. Currently,<br />

the School of Nursing has <strong>an</strong><br />

enrollment of 80 juniors <strong>an</strong>d<br />

seniors.<br />

The four-year exp<strong>an</strong>sion<br />

program will cost approximately<br />

$1.1 million. Funding for the<br />

project <strong>is</strong> being sought from<br />

corporations, foundations, <strong>an</strong>d<br />

individuals. At the 29th <strong>an</strong>nual<br />

<strong>Avila</strong> Steer Dinner & Auction<br />

$47,880 was ra<strong>is</strong>ed specifically for<br />

the nursing exp<strong>an</strong>sion project, with<br />

donations still coming in. Some<br />

of our other notable gifts include:<br />

Your Contributions Make a Difference!<br />

The alumni gr<strong>an</strong>t provides $1,000 <strong>an</strong>nually to full-time, first-year <strong>student</strong>s who are dependents of <strong>Avila</strong><br />

graduates. The family gr<strong>an</strong>t provides $500 <strong>an</strong>nually <strong>an</strong>d <strong>is</strong> available to immediate members of a family who<br />

are concurrently enrolled as full-time <strong>Avila</strong> undergraduates. The family gr<strong>an</strong>t <strong>is</strong> also available to siblings<br />

of <strong>an</strong> <strong>Avila</strong> graduate.<br />

You c<strong>an</strong> make a difference in <strong>an</strong> <strong>Avila</strong> <strong>student</strong>’s life by contributing to the <strong>an</strong>nual scholarship<br />

School of Nursing <strong>is</strong> one of K<strong>an</strong>sas<br />

City’s oldest <strong>an</strong>d most respected<br />

programs.<br />
