The most recognizable name in YSU<br />

history and the only woman in school history<br />

to have her number retired is all-time<br />

leading scorer Dorothy Bowers. Bowers<br />

scored an incredible 2,324 points, including<br />

783 for an 28 points per game scoring<br />

average during her senior season in 1987-<br />

88. Bowers holds three of the top four<br />

single-season scoring marks in school<br />

history, and her career scoring average of<br />

21.5 points per game is second all-time.<br />

One of the best all-around performers<br />

in school history, Danielle Carson is just<br />

one of fi ve players in the 1,000-point club<br />

to have averaged at least 10 points per<br />

game in all four years. Carson, who set<br />

the freshman scoring record in 1982-83<br />

with 345 points, ranks third in scoring with<br />

1,697, fi rst in career assists with 573, second<br />

in career steals with 288 and seventh<br />

in career rebounds with 749.<br />

Wanda Grant became the fi rst<br />

YSU player to score 1,000 career<br />

points with 1,829 from 1977-81.<br />

Grant, who still holds the school’s career<br />

scoring average record at 23.4<br />

points per game, is the only player in<br />

school history to record at least 1,500<br />

points and 1,100 rebounds. Her 1,179<br />

career rebounds still stands as the<br />

all-time record as does her 14.9 rebounds<br />

per game average. In 1980-<br />

81, Grant scored an incredible 710 points.<br />

percentage, scored 506 points for an<br />

average of 16.3 points per game during<br />

the 1997-98 season which saw the Penguins<br />

advance to the second round of the<br />

NCAA Tournament.<br />
