<strong>University</strong> Singers Complete<br />
Tour <strong>of</strong> Russia and the Baltics<br />
The <strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> Singers, under the direction <strong>of</strong> Alan<br />
Raines, completed a highly successful tour <strong>of</strong> Russia and the Baltics.<br />
The tour, which ran from May 18-31, included performances at the<br />
Church in the Rock in Helsinki, Finland; the <strong>Music</strong>al Academy in Tallin,<br />
Estonia; and the Sheremetiev Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. The tour<br />
culminated in a joint performance at Moscow <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> with its<br />
renowned <strong>University</strong> Chorus. The two groups performed their<br />
individual programs and then sang<br />
together the Gaudeamus igitur and<br />
Tchesnekov’s Salvation is Created<br />
under Raines’ direction.<br />

“The audiences were the most<br />
receptive audiences for whom I have<br />
ever performed,” commented Raines.<br />
“All <strong>of</strong> the performances had at least<br />

<strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> Announces Affiliation with<br />
Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestras<br />
The <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> is pleased to announce a new affiliation with the<br />
Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestras <strong>of</strong> Atlanta (MYSO). The group<br />
includes a string orchestra for players 13 and younger and a full symphony<br />
orchestra for students ages 13 to 21. Dr. Marilyn Seelman, assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
<strong>of</strong> music education (strings) at <strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>State</strong>, serves as the ensemble’s<br />
music director and conductor. Founded in 1990, MYSO serves the entire<br />
Atlanta metropolitan area, providing young musicians the opportunity to<br />
continue their music education beyond the classroom in a full orchestra<br />
setting under the direction <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional musicians. MYSO members<br />
perform at least two formal concerts, three or more chamber music concerts<br />
and a “Pops” concert each year that are open to the public.As part <strong>of</strong> their<br />
affiliation with the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong>, the group will be rehearsing at <strong>Georgia</strong><br />
<strong>State</strong>. Special thanks to MYSO Board <strong>of</strong> Director member Mildred Davis,<br />
who established a graduate assistantship in support <strong>of</strong> the Orchestra. For<br />
