Madres e hijas unidas por un diverso

Las mujeres y sus hijas jóvenes
fortalecen sus relaciones en una
tranquila y productiva atmosfera
en una casa respetable cuya arquitectura
contrasta con el horizonte angular que la
rodea. El grupo recientemente celebró la
conclusión de otro ciclo con un proyecto
de arte, una plática constructiva, y una revisión
de las metas y logros.
El evento comenzó con la creación de
encolados donde las madres e hijas trabajaron
juntas mediante un ritual que simbolizó
sus fuertes lazos familiares. Primero,
comenzaron el proceso, reuniendo y cortando
una variedad de piezas coloridas
para decorar los platos de vidrio transparentes.
Segundo, capas de barniz fueron
aplicadas para pegar y esmaltar juntas las
partes. El toque final fue la aplicación de
un fondo delicado de un color, que le dio
unidad a la pieza de arte.
“Este encolado representa los esfuerzos
unidos para crear una diversidad de
ideas y pensamientos”, expresó la Sra.
Carmen Muñiz Cooper, la presidenta del
grupo.

Women and their young
daughters strengthen
their relationships in
a peaceful and productive atmosphere
in a venerable house whose
architecture contrasts with the angular
skyline that surrounds it.
The group recently celebrated
the conclusion of another cycle
with an art project, a constructive
chat, and a revision of goals and
achievements.
The event was initiated with
the creation of colorful glass collages,
where mothers and daughters
worked together throughout a

Mientras trabajan en su proyecto,
todas las participantes intercambiaron
sus experiencias mientras hablaban entre
ellas en un ambiente de cordialidad y
respeto mutuo. Las familias representaron
diferentes regiones de Latino América y
la singularidad de sus culturas. Las hijas
en la asociación están entre los 12 y 17
años de edad. La preocupación principal
del grupo es participar en los talleres de
trabajo para fortalecer las relaciones entre
madres y sus hijas. La asociación continúa
ayudando para hacer entendibles las
diferencias y transiciones entre las tradiciones
y valores comúnmente observadas
por las madres y las influencias de la
cultura estadounidense en sus hijas. Las
psicoterapeutas Carmen Muñiz Cooper y
Kemisis Jorquera han sido muy valiosas
aconsejando a las familias en la organización.
Los lideres y miembros de la asociación
hicieron una evaluación acerca del
logro de sus metas y la creación de nuevas
metas. Dos de las hijas fueron felicitadas
por la aceptación en la universidad, mien-
tras otra recibió una beca de uno de los
prestigiados noticieros en Nueva York.
Al final de la reunión, los encolados
fueron presentados y discutidos. Los
miembros disfrutaron de una variedad de
platos deliciosos que cada familia preparó
para la ocasión.
El próximo ciclo de seis semanas incluirá
octubre y noviembre de 2012. Las
sesiones serán los martes de 6:30 a 7:30
PM en el Centro de Consejería de RCD.

Mothers and daughters united by a diverse
collage of values and work
ritual that symbolized their strong ties as
families. First, they gathered and cut the
variety of pieces to decorate the transparent
glass plates. Second, layers of varnish
were applied for bonding and enamel was
added to hold together the parts. The final
touch was the application of a delicate
one-color background, which gave unity
to the piece of art.
“This collage represents the joining of
efforts to create a diversity of ideas and
thoughts,” said Carmen Muñiz Cooper,
the president of the group.
While working on their project, the
participants exchanged experiences while
talking to each other in an environment
of cordiality and mutual respect. Families
represented different regions of Latin
America and their cultural uniqueness.
Daughters in the group range in age from
12 to 17 years. The main concern of the
group is to participate in the workshops
to strengthen the relationships between
mothers and their daughters. The association
continues helping to make understandable
the differences and transitions
between the traditions and values commonly
observed by the mothers and the
influences of the American culture on the
daughters. Muñiz Cooper and her colleague
Kemisis Jorquera have been of
great value in counseling families in the
organization.

goals and discussed the creation of new

ones. Two of the daughters were
congratulated for their acceptances
to college, while another received
a scholarship from a prestigious
New York news media outlet.
At the end of the meeting, the
collages were presented and discussed.
The members enjoyed the
varied and delicious dishes that
each family prepared for the occasion.
The next six-week cycle of
meetings will occur during October
and November. The sessions
will be on Tuesdays from 6:30 to
7:30 p.m. at the RDC Counseling
Center in White Plains. For more
