Reproductive seasonality in Saanen X Nubia goats. Serum progesterone concentrations was measured
twice a week in no pregnant mature Saanen X Nubia goats kept natural photoperiod and without sexually
active males, to examine whether perception of daylength change underlines seasonal reproductive activity.
The goats showed ovarian cycles during short days and anoestrus in long days (P < 0.05). The duration of
reproductive season was 140.4 days and 224.6 days of anoestrus. Summer solstice to beginning of
reproductive season interval was 106.0 days, and 63.0 days from winter solstice to reproductive season end. It
was concluded that Saanen X Nubia goats kept without sexually active males showed reproductive
