126 JUAN ANTONIO YANDIOLA GARAY Nació en San Esteban de Galdames (Vizcaya), el 29 de agosto de 1786. Falleció en París en 8 de enero de 1830. Su actividad profesional y política le hizo efectuar desde muy pronto prolongados viajes a Inglaterra y a las posesiones americanas de la Corona. En 1812, siendo oficial de la Secretaría de Hacienda de Indias, fue nombrado vocal en las Juntas Generales de Vizcaya. En 1813 fue elegido Diputado a Cortes por la misma provincia. Sus ideales políticos son confusos: en 1816 formó parte de la conspiración de Richart, o “conspiración del Triángulo” que buscaba el asesinato de Fernando VII. Desmantelada la trama fue apresado y torturado por la Inquisición. Marcharía a Inglaterra exilado. Allí comenzó a prestar importantes servicios a la causa fernandina, tanto políticos como financieros, ya que negoció importantes empréstitos para la Corona con casas inglesas y francesas como representante del Banco de San Carlos. Durante el “Trienio Liberal” fue elegido diputado por Vizcaya en las legislaturas de 1820 a 1823. Allí acentuó su moderantismo defendiendo el régimen particular de las provincias vascas. Entre 1822 y 1823 desempeñó el cargo de tesorero general de la Nación. Ocupó la cartera de Hacienda entre el 13 de mayo y el 30 de septiembre de 1823, dentro del Gobierno presidido por Calatrava. El motivo de su elección fue su experiencia financiera. Fue el último gobierno del Trienio, el que marchó primero a Sevilla y luego a Cádiz, huyendo de las tropas del Duque de Angulema. En su calidad de miembro del Gobierno, se le asignó la misión de acompañar como ministro de Jornada a Fernando VII durante todo el tiempo que marchó obligado junto con las Cortes en su huida de Madrid. Una vez suprimido el Gobierno liberal, Yandiola marchó al exilio. Primero a Tánger y desde allí a Lisboa, Rochefort, Burdeos, Laval, Nantes y, finalmente, París, dónde fijó su residencia en 1825.
