Club details:<br />
<strong>MVCS</strong> <strong>PTA</strong> <strong>After</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Clubs</strong> <strong>–</strong> <strong>Fall</strong> <strong>2012</strong> (<strong>Grades</strong> 1-5)<br />
• <strong>Clubs</strong> dates are October 2 nd <strong>–</strong> December 18 th , <strong>2012</strong>. (<strong>Clubs</strong> will not meet October 15-26, November 6, or<br />
November 19-21.)<br />
• <strong>Clubs</strong> start at 2:50pm and end at 4pm. (Students are dismissed to the auditorium immediately following school<br />
where a parent volunteer meets them.)<br />
• Snacks are provided to all students after school and before clubs begin.<br />
• Students attending Campagna and Rec Center after care programs are escorted to their respective locations at<br />
<strong>MVCS</strong>. For students in other aftercare programs a representative from the program will need to pick up the<br />
students.<br />
• An after school bus is available for bus riders.<br />
• Walkers are dismissed to parents in the auditorium at 4pm. If students are picked up late more than two times,<br />
they may not be able to participate in the after school clubs.<br />
Applying for the clubs:<br />
See the attached descriptions and complete the registration form. The information is also posted on the <strong>PTA</strong><br />
website: www.mvcspta.org. Complete and return the registration form by September 6, <strong>2012</strong>.<br />
• Students may be placed in more than one club after all other students have been placed. Please rank<br />
preferences in the column and only pay for the first choice. If more money is due, we will contact you.<br />
• The <strong>PTA</strong> provides financial assistance. Check the box for partial or total waiver on the registration form.<br />
• Please let us know if you are able to volunteer to help with meeting students and distributing snacks after<br />
school, dismissing students at the end of clubs, or assisting club leaders (if needed). All children of volunteers<br />
receive priority placement in clubs.<br />
• Club placements are sent home September 20 th and club members are posted outside the auditorium.<br />

Detalles de Programas<br />
<strong>MVCS</strong> <strong>PTA</strong> Después de Clubes de la Escuela <strong>–</strong> Otoño <strong>2012</strong> (grados 1-5)<br />
• Los clubes comenzaran 2 octubre y terminaran 18 diciembre, <strong>2012</strong> (Los clubes no se reunirá 10 15 al 26, 6 de<br />
noviembre o 19 a 21 noviembre).<br />
• Cada programa se inicia después de horario escolares de 2:55pm a 4:00pm. (Los estudiantes salen de la sala<br />
inmediatamente después de la escuela, donde un padre voluntario se reúne con ellos.)<br />

La inscripción para los Programas<br />
Consulte las descripciones adjuntas y completar el formulario de inscripción. La información también está publicada en<br />
la página web del <strong>PTA</strong>: www.mvcspta.org. Complete y envíe el formulario de inscripción el 6 de septiembre de <strong>2012</strong>.<br />
• Su hijo puede ser colocado en más de un programa después de todos los demás alumnos se hayan asignado.<br />
Coloque el orden de preferencia de su hijo en la columna de la aplicación y sólo pagar la cuota para la primera<br />
elección. Nos comunicaremos con usted si su hijo está en más de un club con el fin de pagar la cuota adicional.<br />
• Tenemos ayuda financiera. Tiene que llenar la aplicación y seleccionar la casilla que indica la exclusión del pago<br />
o pago parcial.<br />
• Por favor, háganos saber si usted es capaz de ser voluntario para ayudar con los estudiantes de reuniones y la<br />
distribución de meriendas después de la escuela, descartando a los estudiantes al final de los clubes, o ayudar a<br />

English Descriptions<br />
Art: (1 st <strong>–</strong> 2 nd ) (WEDNESDAY) Explorations in Art: The children will explore color, shape, and line by using various techniques to<br />
complete works of original art. A parent volunteer is needed for this class. Taught by Kyrah Drasheff.<br />
Art: (1 st <strong>–</strong> 3 rd ) (THURSDAY) Exploring art by studying the work of other artists, experimenting with a variety of mediums and<br />
investigating different art concepts. The primary goal is to have fun while creating and exploring! Parent volunteers are welcome!<br />
Taught by Ellen Pattisall.<br />
Chess: (1 - 5 th ) Learn how to play chess from a Silver Knights chess coach! Their coaches are highly-rated professional chess<br />
instructors. They have taught tens of thousands of children to play, including the 2008 national champions for first and second<br />
grade. Class time is evenly split between lesson and play. Lessons range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies.<br />
Play time is structured to pair each student against an opponent of similar skill. For more information, see their website<br />

Dance: (3 rd <strong>–</strong> 5 th ) In this class the child will learn different types of movements, explore elements of dance and practice selfexpression.<br />
The child will enjoy moving to different rhythms and musics. Changing dynamics and learning different patterns will lead<br />
the class to a fun dance routine. The class is taught by a professional and very experienced dance teacher, Silvia Hendi.<br />
Drama: (3 rd - 5 th ) In this club we'll use our imaginations and creativity each week to travel wherever our minds can take us. Theater<br />
games and improvisation activities will keep us moving and using our bodies in new ways. We'll laugh a lot and every voice will be<br />
heard. If you like to pretend, don't be shy - come join us.<br />
Comic Arts Club: (3 rd <strong>–</strong> 5 th ) Make your own comic book! Learn the secrets of drawing, inking, and coloring comics. Design your own<br />
characters, write your own stories, and go home at the end the club session with a finished comic book of your own creating.<br />
Odyssey Adventures: (3 rd - 4 th ) Are you inventive? Do you like to build things? Are you a good writer? Are you adept at working with<br />
people? Join us in solving some problems that will challenge all your wits and skills. You will work in teams in timed challenges. Each<br />
club meeting you will be faced with a new challenge that can only be solved through ingenuity and teamwork. The challenge might<br />
be to construct something, to understand something, to rhyme something, or even to find something. Most of the challenges will<br />
come from the Odyssey of the Mind Program (http://www.odysseyofthemind.com/default.php), but there may be a few other<br />
surprises ! Be prepared for an adventure of the mind.<br />
Paper & Creative Movement: (1 st <strong>–</strong> 2 nd ) What can you do with a simple piece of paper? We'll fold it, tear it, weave it, throw it and<br />
create! Join the paper club to explore origami, paper weaving, paper pop-ups, paper building, and more.<br />
Science: (1 st - 2 nd ) The Science Seed is a science enrichment program designed to develop a love of science that will last a<br />
lifetime. Your child will explore Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Nature and Nutrition in interactive and age appropriate classes<br />
focused on learning and fun. Each class your child will create a page in their science journal, which they will bring home on the last<br />
day. Winter session will include different topics than introduced in the fall session- so encourage your budding Scientist to join<br />

Spelling Sports Club: (3 rd <strong>–</strong> 4 th ) Who knew spelling could be as fun as playing soccer? In the spelling sports club, you'll play spelling<br />
games that get you wiggling, jumping, and yelling (yes yelling!). You'll become spelling sleuths using news stories with tricky spelling<br />
mistakes. And we'll mix in some creative activities like making crossword puzzles and rhyming poems. You'll be kickin' it in spelling!<br />
Tae Kwon Do: (1 st <strong>–</strong> 5 th ) In partnership with Yang's Tae Kwon Do Academy in Del Ray, Master Yang will teach the students the basics<br />
of Tae Kwon Do, a Korean martial arts form known for its high-flying kicks. Fee includes a white uniform and belt. Good behavior at<br />
home and high academic achievement are reinforced in class. A parent volunteer is needed to assist Master Yang.<br />
Yoga: (1 st <strong>–</strong> 3 rd ) Students will learn to be aware of their bodies, to breathe with awareness and to control their movements. The<br />
students learn through movement and that discipline comes from learning to control our bodies and minds. This also helps to plant<br />
the seeds of wellness early on. Stories are incorporated to instill good values and character development.

Zumbatomics: (3 rd <strong>–</strong> 5 th ) Zumbatomic is a high energy, contagiously exciting dance workout specifically designed for children ages 4-<br />
12. This Latin inspired dance fitness party is designed specifically with kid friendly music, movements, and routines. Zumbatomic is a<br />
perfect fit for children and it creates an environment of excitement about getting healthy and being active! This class helps children<br />
boost metabolism and increase focus, coordination, and self-confidence.<br />

Ajedrez: (1 - 5 th ) Aprende a jugar al ajedrez de un entrenador de ajedrez de Plata Caballeros! Sus entrenadores son de alta<br />
calificación profesional de los instructores de ajedrez. Ellos han enseñado a decenas de miles de niños para jugar, incluyendo<br />
el 2008 campeones nacionales de primer y segundo grado. El horario de clase es dividido equitativamente entre lección y el<br />

con la gente? Únase a nosotros en la solución de algunos problemas que pondrán a prueba todo tu ingenio y habilidades. Va a<br />
trabajar en equipo en los desafíos cronometrados. Cada reunión del club que se enfrentará a un nuevo reto que sólo puede<br />
resolverse a través del ingenio y trabajo en equipo. El desafío podría ser la de construir algo, para entender algo, a la rima algo, o<br />

Danza: (3 rd <strong>–</strong> 5 th ) En esta clase, el niño aprenderá los diferentes tipos de movimientos, explorar elementos de la danza y la práctica<br />
de la auto-expresión. El niño disfrutará de trasladarse a diferentes ritmos y músicas. Cambio de dinámica y patrones de aprendizaje<br />
diferentes dará lugar a la clase a una rutina de baile divertido. La clase es impartida por un profesor de baile profesional y muy<br />
experimentado, Silvia Hendi.<br />
Drama: (3 rd <strong>–</strong> 5 th ) En este club vamos a usar nuestra imaginación y la creatividad de cada semana para viajar a donde nuestra mente<br />
nos puede llevar. Juegos teatrales y actividades de la improvisación nos mantendrá en movimiento y el uso de nuestros cuerpos en<br />
formas nuevas. Nos reiremos mucho y cada voz se escuchará. Si te gusta fingir, no sea tímido - únase a nosotros.<br />
Ciencia: (1 st - 2 nd ) El Seed Science es un programa de enriquecimiento de la ciencia destinada a desarrollar un amor por la<br />
ciencia que va a durar toda la vida. Su hijo a explorar Biología, Química, Geología, Física, Naturaleza y Nutrición en las clases<br />
apropiadas interactivas y centradas en el aprendizaje edad y divertidas. Cada clase de su hijo va a crear una página en la revista<br />
científica, que se llevará a casa el último día. Sesión de invierno se incluyen diferentes temas que presentó en la sesión de otoñopara<br />

basura y crear! Únete al club de papel para explorar el origami, papel tejido, papel pop-ups, papel de construcción, y mucho más.<br />
Tae Kwon Do: (1 st <strong>–</strong> 5 th ) En asociación con Tae Yang Kwon Do Academia, en Del Ray, el maestro Yang va a enseñar a los estudiantes<br />
los conceptos básicos de Tae Kwon Do, un arte marcial coreano forma conocida por su alto vuelo patadas. El costo incluye un<br />

específicamente para niños de 4-12. Este partido de inspiración latina de baile gimnasio está diseñado específicamente con la<br />
música acogedor para los niños, los movimientos y rutinas. Zumbatomic es un ajuste perfecto para los niños y crea un ambiente<br />
