SGS Students Take Third Place
Title for “Best Entrepreneur”
By Robert Sala, Business Management Teacher
On October 4th 2010, a project created by Junior Achievement Dominicana named “Siempre-Socios por un Día”, initiated
its fifth version with detailed information by the directors of Grupo Ramos at Tony Roma’s restaurant. The conference
aims to stimulate entrepreneurship in adolescents by helping them enhance their skills, define their career choices and
encourage positive attitudes towards work and study.
During the program’s launch, Mercedes Ramos of Grupo Ramos expressed how pleased she was in participating once again
with Junior Achievement Dominicana in the development of this educational project. In response, Mr. Demallistre Salvador
of Junior Archievement Dominicana thanked Grupo Ramos for their support and renewed their interest as part of the
Corporate Social Responsibility Program.
On September 28,2010, more than 1,500 students out of 42 schools in the Dominican Republic participated with an interactive
web-based business simulator as they competed for several rounds for the title “Best Entrepreneur”. Prepared
to take on other schools for this event, the following students of Saint George School represented us with confidence;
Beatriz Cabello, José Dmitri Bautista and Luis Manuel Martínez.
During the competition, our students struggled from the very beginning as we encountered technical difficulties ranging
from WiFi connections to logging-in into the system. However, with much determination, Beatriz, José and Luis Manuel
were motivated to continue working as a team as they qualified for the finals. At this point of the competition, emotions
were running high as they needed to “catch-up” and make time count in order to guarantee a winning spot. The simulator
closes, points were accumulated and Saint George School was finally announced placing third for “Best Entrepreneur”.
On behalf of the school, we congratulate and recognize our students for their valiant efforts as they competed at Junior
Achievement Dominicana’s “Siempre-Socios por un Día”.
