Recognized Committees
• To ensure adequate representation of government and non-government
IUCN members at each World Conservation Congress.
• To set up sub-committees and specialist groups, as appropriate.
• To encourage the use of scientific and professional skills, practical
experience and resources of government and NGOs necessary to support the
above, and
• To do all such other things as are conducive or incidental to the attainment of
the above objectives.
Main Activities Advocacy, develop working relationship with Regional Committees of IUCN,
coordinates joint studies with IUCN members, provide a discussion forum amongst
IUCN Members on IUCN activities, help coordinate on conservation and
management of natural resources

Key Achievements • Completed the Himal Programme in Western Himalayan Region.
• Organized meetings for developing framework for Sustainable Use Initiatives
with respect to marine and freshwater fisheries.

Areas Programme through World Heritage Sites.
• Organized meetings to celebrate the International Year of the Mountains.
• Participation and advocacy in the World Parks Congress, Durban.
