Objectives • Develop the fullest possible communication, co-operation and co-ordination<br />
amongst <strong>IUCN</strong> members in Sri Lanka, regional committees and council and<br />
thus assist <strong>IUCN</strong> to meet its objectives in Sri Lanka and international<br />
conservation activities with particular reference to Asia<br />
• Promote the participation of members in the planning of <strong>IUCN</strong> programmes<br />
• Influence, encourage and assist society to conserve the integrity and diversity<br />
of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and<br />
ecologically sustainable<br />
• Disseminate <strong>IUCN</strong> policy positions, publications, reports and information about<br />
the work of the Committee throughout Sri Lanka as necessary<br />
• Support the ratification and implementation of international environmental<br />
treaties and conservations in Sri Lanka.<br />
• Encourage new membership and assist the government agencies in adopting<br />
policy and legislation documents focusing on conservation<br />
• Facilitate dialogue and arbitration amongst stakeholders on major development<br />
projects in the country with the potential of adversely impacting on the lives of<br />
the people.<br />
• Do all or any such other things as are conducive or incidental to the attainment<br />
of the above objects or any of them<br />

fundraising, collective statements, promote Congross resolutions and<br />

December 2003 Attendance of membership at the World Conservation Congress-<br />
