El ahorro puede ser una gran fuente de ingresos, y a medida que
las tarifas de los operadores sufren cada vez más presión, parecería
que hasta los servicios móviles más lucrativos estarán acompañados
por medidas bien pensadas para proteger esos ingresos difícilmente

Tradicionalmente, las llamadas no contestadas de la red local de los

Thrift can be a great source of revenue, and as operator tariffs come
under increasing pressure, it seems that even the most lucrative
mobile services will be accompanied by well thought-out measures
to protect those hard-won revenues – most obviously by removing
operational inefficiencies.
International routing and roaming inefficiencies have resulted in
higher costs for operators and users for a long time now. Roamers
have reached the point where they are seeking alternative strategies
to avoid higher tariffs, which in turn typically impact services
and revenues. For operators, the demanding realities of today’s
commercial climate make efficient routing methods even more
appealing. These technologies work by eliminating international
tromboning and giving more control to users. The effect is reduced
cost for operators and roamers, improved user satisfaction and increased
network traffic.
Preventing interruptions in
voicemail service while roaming
Optimal voicemail deposit is one proven method of increasing
usage and reducing costs and should be a cornerstone of operator
plans to protect roaming revenues. Traditionally, unanswered
calls from the roamers’ home network involve an international leg
that trombones back to the HPMN voicemail system. This inefficiency
not only results in significantly higher costs, it often causes
subscribers to disable voicemail service entirely before they travel
abroad. In addition, without CLI delivery, home voicemail systems
may require the caller to re-enter the dialled number, or they may
just disconnect altogether.
Operators need an effective means of overcoming incomplete signalling
problems and empower roamers to control their incoming
calls and reduce costs for voicemail deposits. If roamers’ voicemail
works the same as at home while they roam and calls are routed
in the home network directly to the home voicemail system (or
any other forwarded number) without international legs – then
subscriber and operator alike stand to benefit greatly from the
change.
