General remarksThe Hella reversing warning devicehas been planned for use in cars,trucks, construction machinery,agricultural vehicles and mobile machinery.Country-specific legislationhas to be complied with. When thereverse gear is engaged, a warningsignal sounds. The reversingwarning device is purely a safetydevice and must be connected tothe protected positive lead of thereversing lamp. The tone aperture ofthe reversing warning device mustremain free of any paint and protectivecoatings! The device hasa polarity reversal protection.Page 3 AssemblyThe mounting position of thereversing warning device shouldbe about 1.50 m above road level.Mounting can be upright, pendantor surface-mounted. The mountingposition must be chosen in sucha way that the reversing warningdevice is protected from the weatherand external damage as wellas possible. Unhindered backwardradiation of the signal tones mustbe guaranteed.7Page 4 Electrical connectionMount the reversing warningdevice near the reversing lamp, forpreference. The red positive lead isconnected to the positive lead ofthe reversing lamp using a solderedconnector, the black lead (-) mustalso be connected to the negativelead of the reversing lamp using asoldered connector.Functional testPlease carry out a functional checkafter assembly and before the firstdrive. When the reverse gear isengaged, an acoustical warningsignal must sound immediately.The vehicle should not be used ifpossible if the alarm does not functioncorrectly (check the electricalconnection again!)Note: The reversing warningdevices 3SL 996 139-00 and3SL 009 148-10 have anautomatic sound level adapter.The solid state electronics automaticallyadjust to at least 5 dB(A)above the sound pressure levelof the environment!One more tip:If you have any questions orproblems with installation:Contact the Hella ServiceDepartment.
