But a growing receptivity among the upper class was evi<strong>de</strong>nced by attendance atmeetings sponsored by the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship and Women's AglowFellowship during the 1970s.The work of the Assemblies of God in Panama began in 1967 un<strong>de</strong>r the lea<strong>de</strong>rship ofmissionaries Richard Jeffery and David and Doris Goodwin, who held exten<strong>de</strong>d evangelisticcrusa<strong>de</strong>s, called “Gran Campaña <strong>de</strong> Sanidad Divina” (Great Campaign of Divine Healing),throughout much of Panama. The first such crusa<strong>de</strong> was held on Calle Primera, VistaHermosa, in Panama City. Some of the early converts in these crusa<strong>de</strong>s were HermeniaVillarreal and Carmen and Anita González, who began working with the Assemblies of Godun<strong>de</strong>r the guidance of missionary Richard Larson, who arrived in Panama in 1969 an<strong>de</strong>stablished a church in the Canal Zone.Carmen González, a few months after her conversion, traveled to the USA and was stronglyinfluenced by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal there. Upon her return to Panama, Carmenworked in an evangelistic ministry in the Province of Chiriquí in western Panama, where shemet María Ramos. Some time later, Carmen and María returned to Panama City and becamelea<strong>de</strong>rs in the early Charismatic Renewal Movement there. They met with a large number ofCatholic Charismatics in the Guadalupe Catholic Church until the group was forced to leaveand find another meeting place. They began meeting in María's house and the group becameknown as the "House of Prayer" (Casa <strong>de</strong> Oración).
