Large table clock double face with automata. Gilt bronze,
enamel and coloured stones. The glass-sided lower section displays a country
scene and, at the back, a river scene, both with automata. Movement in
pinnacles sourrounding the clock, small waterfall and upper rosette. Bell
strike with several tunes.
Crafted in China for the Imperial market at Guangzhou workshops,
Qianlong period, late 18th century. 33 ½ in; 14 ¼ in; 10 in.
3. Reloj de sobremesa. Autómata “Jaula de pájaros”. Bronce dorado y
madera. Al dar la hora se dispara la música, que es de cilindro con peine
de seis piezas musicales y, a continuación, suena la flauta de pistón que
imita el canto de los pájaros que van saltando de un travesaño a otro con
un movimiento de pico, alas y cola.
Firmado por F. Nicole. Atribuido, por su calidad, a las obras de
Courvoisier & Frères, manufactura suiza del siglo XIX especializada en
relojes de oro repetidores y autómatas.

When the clock strikes the hours, the music mechanism is activated,
consisting of a cylinder and comb with six tunes; the piston flute then
sounds, imitating the song of the birds, which jump from one bar to another
moving their beak, wings and tail.
Signed, F. Nicole. Attributed on the grounds of its quality to Courvoisier & Frères,
important 19th century Swiss clockmaking firm with expertise in crafting
gold repeaters and automata.

Bronce dorado y plaquetas de ágata y cristales. De carácter oriental
probablemente fabricado para un dignatario hindú.
Firmado por James Cox, joyero, relojero y orfebre británico del siglo
XVIII, célebre por la creación de autómatas y relojes mecánicos
ingeniosos. Una de sus obras más importante es el Reloj del Pavo Real
que se conserva en el Museo del Hermitage (San Petersburgo).
