Ro bert Bosch was a bu si ness man s pe cially sen si ti ve to the
needs and well being of his wor kers. In 1906, his com pany,
which held 526 em ployees when it ma nufactured the 100,000 th
sparkplug, was one of the first large German com panies to in -
troduce the 8-hour work shift. Later in April of 1910, he in troduced
a half-day wor king shift on Sa turdays, in re cognition of
his em ployees who had by then ma nufactured 500,000 spark
ignition systems. He donated one mi llion Ger man Marks to the
Stutt gart Poly tech nic. He la ter gran ted wor kers stag ge red holidays
in ac cordance with their years of service. Bosch was al so
recognized as a com pany pa ying higher sa laries than any other
company in the re gion.

Robert Bosch had ma naged to create an industrial em pire.
By 1910 the company's sa les had risen to al most twenty mi -
llion Marks. By 1912, 4,500 BOSCH em plo yees we re ope ra ting
2,650 ma chines, and the com pany had ma nufactured one mi -
llion spark plugs.
By 1914, the BOSCH GROUP had grown substantially -eight
re gional agen cies in Ger many, fi ve bran ches abroad and
25 sa les agents in distinct coun tries around the world.
