dispuesta, capacidad instalada comprometida, inversión asociada e ingresos
CONOCE
A NUESTROS
SOCIOS
Patricia
Darez
Directora
Contact.us@350renewables.com

SO LONG ACERA
In December 2012, ACERA held its traditional annual press conference to review the main
conclusions of the period and projections for the following year. It had been an eventful year
for the country's energy scenario: civil society's demand for cleaner energy led to conflicts
and stoppages of major conventional generation projects. But the news for me at that time
was also different: the arrival as the new Executive Director of the renewable association,
which was received both by me and by the sector with great joy and hope, but at the same
time with great and difficult challenges.
At that time, there were countless barriers to the development of the NCRE sector in Chile.
These technologies repeatedly suffered harsh criticism that invalidated them as a real and
efficient option to replace polluting thermoelectric power plants with high negative impacts
on the environment.
O
PI
NIÓN
Carlos
Finat
Executive Director
ACERA AG.
Those were times when opponents of the new clean and renewable generation
technologies exhibited a formidable arsenal of objections. From the fact that the GDP would
drop several percentage points if the bill raising the NCRE target to 20% was persevered with,
to derogatory comments such as that NCRE were "only good for powering juicers, but could
never supply the mining industry".
Today, after only nine years, and having overcome many of those difficulties to advance and
grow, it seems incredible how much we have achieved. More than 10,000 MW of NCRE
operating and another 5,000 MW under construction. Chile leading the decarbonization of
the electricity sector in the region, and ACERA guiding the path of the energy transition in
our country.
The determined will of the people who work in the renewable association and its member
companies to make a space for themselves in the energy market, allowed perceptions about
NCRE to change, and finally the facts became irrefutable arguments in favor of their
competitiveness and their materiality in electricity generation. Without these people and
companies, it would have been impossible for the sector to reach the results it is showing
today.
During these years, ACERA has been approached by a group of people who are now part of
our organization, especially distinguished by their high commitment to sustainable
development and the dream of achieving the impossible: an electric system with zero
emissions. It has been a good fortune and a privilege to have those who currently make up
our team and those who were part of it in the past, as well as the unrestricted support of
ACERA's Board Members and Directors, all people who work with commitment, conviction
and great dedication to achieve the goals we have set for ourselves.
It only remains for me to thank all of you who have been part of my journey as executive
director of ACERA. As I have already said publicly and privately, this period has been the most
stimulating and satisfying of my professional and personal life, of which I feel deeply proud.
Thank you for the affection, respect, trust, loyalty, knowledge, dialogue, patience, sense of
humor, and so many other recognitions that I have received throughout these years.
I hope to be back in the industry in June 2022, as an advisor to ACERA and perhaps with
some personal initiative. I am absolutely confident that the transition to a zero-emission and
highly competitive generation matrix is a process that cannot be stopped and that, like many
things related to NCRE, will surprise us with shorter timeframes than we can imagine. For my
part, the challenges of energy transition and climate change are what motivate and excite
me, and I hope to be able to contribute to them in the years to come.
Best regards and see you soon.

NEWS
Carlos Finat participates
in meeting with GWEC in
the framework of COP 26
As part of the development of the COP 26 in Glasgow, a meeting
between the wind sector and the Chilean Government was held in the
Blue Zone of this conference on climate change, in which ACERA was
also part of virtually from Chile.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Energy, Juan Carlos
Jobet, the President of GWEC Latin America, Ramon Fiestas, the
Growth and Partnerships Director of GWEC, Emerson Clarke, the CEO
of GWEC, Ben Backwell, the CEO of Mainstream Renewable Power,
Mary Quaney, the Group SVP Marketing, Communications,
Sustainability and Public Affairs of Vestas, Morten Dyrholm, the Global
Head of Corporate Affairs of Siemens Gamesa Renewable, Ben Hunt
and, connected telematically from Chile, the Executive Director of
ACERA, Carlos Finat.
On the occasion, there was a discussion on the decarbonization
strategy in the electricity sector in the context of the second Nationally
Determined Contribution. Technical and financial sustainability in the
intermediate horizon of 2030 was discussed. In addition, specialists
focused on the enablers of this whole process, such as transmission
infrastructure, storage, complementary services and flexibility, and the
role of the independent operator. Finally, possible future actions to be
taken were also discussed.
SMBC Bank becomes a new ACERA
member
The Japanese banking institution is the first financial institution to join
the ASSOCIATION, a milestone that also closes the complete value
chain of the NCRE industry among the ACERA associates.
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), through its
representative office in Chile, has recently joined the group of
member companies of the Chilean Association of Renewable Energy
and Storage, ACERA A.G., marking a double milestone: being the first
financial institution to join the Association, and thus completing the
entire value chain of the renewable energy industry it represents.
"It is a privilege for us to join ACERA, and we look forward to further
developing relationships with the industry and the other member
companies. We have a great interest in continuing to contribute to the
development of a renewable energy matrix in the country, and we
hope to be an active contributor to the association," said Felipe Diaz,
Chief Representative of SMBC Chile.
SMBC has a strong presence in the financing of important renewable
energy projects, among them, Condor Portfolio, Ibereólica Cabo
Leones I and III, AELA Generación, Huatacondo, Santiago Solar,
Pelícano Solar, Conejo Solar and San Juan.
06.
ACERA presents the results of its study
"Roadmap to achieve zero emissions in
the electricity generation sector in Chile"
With the aim of promoting dialogue, advancing Chile's energy
transition, and achieving a totally renewable matrix for our country,
ACERA organized the Webinar of the final results of the Study "Route
to achieve zero emissions in the electricity generation sector in
Chile", commissioned by the Association to the consulting firm SPEC,
in collaboration with the Institute of Complex Engineering Systems
(ISCI) of the University of Chile, and the Technical University Federico
Santa Maria.
This comprehensive research proposes several scenarios that analyze
both the feasibility of the total withdrawal of coal-fired power plants
within certain time frames, as well as that of an eventual 100% fossil
fuel-free matrix. All with a long-term view, identifying the key factors,
the variables to be considered and the time required.
The event began with the introductory opening of the future Executive
Director of ACERA, Ana Lía Rojas, who had an interesting conversation
with Carolina Urmeneta, Head of the Climate Change Office of the
Ministry of the Environment, followed by a presentation of the main
results of the study by ACERA's Director of Studies, Darío Morales.
Finally, a panel discussion was opened with Cecilia Dastres, from the
Participation and Dialogue Division of the Ministry of Energy; Céline
Assémat, from DNV and ACERA Advisor; Daniela González, from
Domo Legal; and the consultant Rosa Serrano.
The panel focused on the challenges posed by the energy transition,
with a broad view that encompasses technical, social, economic and
environmental implications.
Ministries of Energy and Public Lands
announce the biggest boost to renewable
energies in a decade
Within the framework of the development of Cop 26 and the
commemoration of Energy Day, the Minister of National Assets, Julio
Isamit, together with the Undersecretary of Energy, Francisco López,
announced the awarding of the largest tender in the last decade for
land for the development of renewable energies. ACERA's Director of
Studies, Darío Morales, participated in this activity.
These are nine properties located within the Taltal Reserve, where the
winning companies jointly committed to the installation of 2,779.6
MW in hybrid projects, i.e., with wind and solar generation, arranged in
more than 16,937 hectares. This figure corresponds to 11% of the
installed capacity of the National Electric System and is made up of
1,746.6 MW of wind energy and 1,034 MW of solar energy. In addition,
the projects consider 480 MW of storage capacity, which is good
news for the stability of the system.
"This tender not only represents an important boost to renewable
energy generation, it is a historic tender in terms of available area,
committed installed capacity, associated investment and committed
tax revenues, which also means a substantial contribution to a
sustainable economic recovery," said Minister Isamit.
The projects awarded committed an investment of more than US$
3,100 million and tax revenues of UF 621,365 per year. Considering the
40-year duration of the concessions granted, a total of more than UF
24,850,000 will be transferred to the Treasury over this period. It
should be noted that 65% of these resources are transferred to the
Regional Government to support the development of local projects.
MEET OUR
MEMBERS
Patricia is of Spanish origin, since this year also nationalized as Chilean, is
married and has a son of five months. She studied Aeronautical Engineering in
the UK, but she always knew that her passion was renewable energy and
energy transition, so she has been working in the field for 16 years, both in
development and consulting. She has been working in Chile since 2011.
Among her hobbies, she says she loves nature and sports, such as trekking,
mountain biking, swimming and yoga. She also enjoys reading. She says that
she has recently started taking horseback riding lessons, "when you live in the
Araucanía, in a rural area, it is important to know this world. Although in the
last year my life has changed and a lot of my hobby time has been spent taking
care of my son," she adds.
As to why she decided to focus her career on the energy sector, Patricia says that
she wanted to dedicate her time to doing something useful for society and the
energy transition, which she found an exciting challenge and a key problem that
we as human beings must solve.
What elements characterize and/or differentiate your company?
Patricia
Darez
Director
contact.us@350renewables.com
350renewables is a boutique consulting firm, therefore, we are dedicated to do
technical consulting, some of them quite complex. Our staff is mainly senior
(more than 10 years of experience and usually with both national and international
experience). We are very flexible and have access to a wide network of
consultants, so we assemble the perfect team for the task requested by the client.
Patricia explains that they are technical consultants specializing in solar PV, wind
and storage. One of their flagship products in recent months is shadow flicker
assessments. "We have created our own assessment methodology in line with
international best practices and our studies are very well recognized," she stresses.
What are the novelties or changes in your company in the last time?
Our flexible structure has allowed us to take on more complex projects, where the
engineering we are doing in-house provides us with all the inputs we need to
meet the different needs of our clients, mainly in the early stages of the projects,
where it is necessary, for example, to make definitions in relation to the topology
and combination of technologies.
Regarding the issues they are working on, Patricia points out that they have done
a lot of work for the development of wind farms in Magallanes, which are intended
to supply the demand for green hydrogen. "They are very complex farms because
they have an enormous extension (technically more similar to an "offshore"
development) and where being able to quantify wake losses and maintain
adequate separations is key", she assures.
Patricia is emphatic in pointing out that renewables and storage must be able to
supply the country's total electricity demand in the near future for Chile to have a
zero emissions matrix, and that they are a fundamental part that will end up
completely displacing fossil technologies in the next couple of decades at the
latest.
Why would you recommend being an ACERA member?
Because it is a good way for renewable companies to jointly address, as an
industry, our agenda and objectives. On an individual level it is part of being
connected to the energy policy discussion that creates the market in which we
move and which affects us on a daily basis.

The activity, which seeks to provide journalists and communicators with a
conceptual framework to support them in the coverage of news on energy, and
in particular on Renewable Energies, experienced its second extraordinary
session, led by the Leader of the Local Sustainability Area of EBP Chile, Rubén
Méndez, who spoke on "Energy Inclusion as a driver for the transition", covering
topics such as poverty and energy vulnerability.
In addition, during November, the seventh and penultimate day of the course
was held on "Climate Change and Gender Equity, the new paradigms", which
was in charge of the Gender Coordinator of the Ministry of Energy, Marcela
Zulantay and the COP 25-26 Negotiation Advisor, Paula Fuentes, who delved
into the challenges of the sector to achieve greater incorporation of women in
the sector and its relationship with the climate crisis. The presentation is the
third of a three-session module of the course under the concept of energy
transition.
In December, the ACERA Press Course, which is aimed at media journalists, as
well as corporate communicators involved in energy and sustainability issues in
general, will have its last session entitled "Green Hydrogen and Energy Storage.
ACERA Webinar Series closes with
event on female leadership and new
generations for the renewable sector
The activity is the last in a series of four webinars aimed at
fostering dialogue and advancing Chile's energy transition.
CHECK
In August ACERA began a series of Webinars on four topics relevant to the
industry: Projections and relevance of other NCRE; Decarbonization and
Energy Transition; Green Hydrogen and Storage; and the last one that took
place in November entitled "Female leadership and new generations for the
renewable sector".
The activity began with an introductory presentation by the Executive Director
of RedEG, Lilian Denham, who introduced the mentoring initiative Hub
Antofagasta, which seeks to encourage the incorporation and training of more
women in sectors with low labor participation, such as STEM.
The initiative is sponsored by the Ministry of Energy and is led by the renewable
energy block of ACERA, and its partner companies Acciona Energía, Cerro
Dominador and X-Elio.
The presentation gave way to a panel discussion composed of Carolina
Obando, HR Manager of Aela; Juan Carlos Calderón, HR Executive Mainstream
of Mainstream Renewable Power; Lilian Denham of RedEG; and moderated by
Carolina Cifuentes, Communications Director (S) of ACERA, who generated a
conversation with the vision of the companies that are working to promote
concrete actions in matters of gender equity.
