BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT WINS
In January, Louisiana Economic
Development recognized the
City and Parish of Lafayette as a
Louisiana Development Ready
Community, the 54th parish or
municipality to receive state
certification of local investment
readiness since the program
began in 2008.
To secure the LDRC designation,
LEDA and the City-Parish of
Lafayette combined the strategic
planning efforts of local tourism partners, the economic development
authority, chamber of commerce officials and other stakeholders;
identified the wins that have been implemented; and coalesced around
plans to leverage and amplify the community’s collective efforts.
In February, Tides Medical, a producer of skin
graft products distributed nationwide for use in the
treatment of chronic or difficult-to-heal wounds,
announced it is investing $1.5 million to upgrade its
corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility
in Lafayette. The expansion will allow the company to
increase production of its amniotic skin substitutes to
meet growing demand.
The company will create 40 new direct jobs with
average annual salaries of $57,790. Tides Medical will also retain 77
existing positions. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the
project will create an additional 54 new indirect jobs, for a total of 171
new and retained jobs in the Acadiana Region.

BUSINESS RETENTION & EXPANSION SUPPORT
POLICY INITIATIVES
& GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS
As the voice of the regional business community, 1A communicates our policy positions
to Acadiana’s elected officials, providing a unified voice on behalf of the more 700
businesses and individuals we represent.
2023 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
1A will be advocating for a set of legislative priorities during the 2023 Regular Session
to advance the organization’s vision of creating the best possible place for business and
talent to locate and stay. The priorities,
adopted by our Board of Directors,
focus on (1) tax competitiveness, (2)
industry growth, (3) insurance market
stability, (4) infrastructure investment,
and (5) talent development.
OneAcadiana.org/2023Priorities
Throughout the Regular Session, 1A
will be engaging legislators on these
priorities and keeping our investors
and members informed throughout the process. This
includes our Weekly Legislative Update emails and
comprehensive bill tracker.
VIBRANT ACADIANA
1A continues to advance the Vibrant Acadiana initiative, with two of our primary
deliverables being: (1) a Regional Data Dashboard and (2) the CivicCon Acadiana
event series.
Regional Data Dashboard
1A partners with the
Blanco Center at UL
Lafayette to power the
data on our Regional
Data Dashboard, which
provides an at-aglance
look at regional
data on population,
employment,
education, and well-being. In Q1, the Blanco Center completed a round of updates.
RESOURCES FOR DEVELOPING MINDS
At our Q1 CivicCon Acadiana event with Dr.
Ron Ferguson, leaders from Ochsner Lafayette
General, Our Lady of Lourdes, and the United
Way of Acadiana announced a new “Resources
for Developing Minds” initiative to engage new
mothers with resources to support their baby’s
brain development. This partnership was inspired
by One Acadiana’s Leadership Exchange trip
to Pensacola, where participants learned about
a similar program facilitated by the Studer
Community Institute.
55 BY 25: SUPPORTING
RURAL LEARNERS
To enhance focus on rural learners
through the 55 by 25 initiative, 1A has
been selected by the Association of
Chamber of Commerce Executives
(ACCE) Foundation to participate in an
Economic Mobility for Rural Workers
Cohort. The cohort of 11 communities
from across the country will be divided
into four subgroups to pilot strategies to
help low-income rural workers secure
well-paid jobs. ACCE Foundation will
provide technical assistance, consulting
support, peer learning opportunities, and
connections to content experts.
Chambers of commerce and economic
development organizations like 1A are
uniquely positioned to foster cross-sector
coalitions that create sustained business
engagement in education and workforce development, which can help
provide clear pathways through training to employment.

1A SCHOLARSHIPS
While many high school graduates
receive funding and assistance to enter
their freshman year at a higher education
institution, fewer scholarship opportunities
exist for students continuing their education.
To address this, the One Acadiana
Scholarships will be awarded to one LSUE
student, one SLCC student, one Unitech
student, and one UL Lafayette student.
