Author of a treatise on perspective (1834) that became rapidly famous, he was appointed teacher at the Brussels Academy (1832-1874). Together with Jean-Baptiste Van Moer and F. Strobants, he belonged to the generation of Romantic “vedute” painters. He participated at many exhibitions and also accomplished diplomatic missions, for example in Spain (1841).
