International workcamps
Véritable aventure humaine, les chantiers regroupent
pendant 2 ou 3 semaines des participants venus du
monde entier. Ils sont initiés aux techniques de restauration
traditionnelle et découvrent pendant le
temps consacré aux loisirs les richesses culturelles
de la Provence et de la Méditerranée.
The workcamps bring together volunteers from around the
world to live and work together for 2-3 weeks and constitute
an authentic human experience. Participants learn
about building and environmental restoration techniques and
discover the wonderful cultural treasures of Provence and the
Mediterranean in their leisure time.

Les séjours solidaires s’organisent autour de chantiers
communautaires avec les populations locales
et de randonnées dans les sites exceptionnels du
Haut Atlas Central ; pour ceux qui veulent concilier
action engagée, randonnée et découverte approfondie
de la culture berbère.
These solidarity holidays focus on making a contribution to
community projects working alongside local people and hikes
in exceptional locations in the central part of the High Atlas.
They are designed for those who want to combine a humanitarian
action with hiking and discovering Berber culture.

Qui sommes-nous ?
L’Association pour la Participation et l’Action Régionale (APARE) et le Centre Méditerranéen
de l’Environnement (CME) vous proposent de vivre des vacances autrement
en Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur et Méditerranée, loin des flux touristiques tapageurs.
Aux chantiers internationaux de bénévoles et Campus euro-méditerranéens s’ajoutent
cette année quelques nouveautés :
• Des séjours de tourisme solidaire dans l’Atlas marocain proposés en partenariat
avec un tour opérateur ami, qui conjuguent randonnées, découvertes et chantiers
communautaires.
• Des ateliers du patrimoine d’une semaine en Provence pour les passionnés qui
souhaitent approfondir connaissances et pratique de la restauration.

Euro-Mediterranean Campuses
for sustainable development
Les campus sont proposés à des étudiants et jeunes professionnels
d’Europe et des pays méditerranéens. Encadrés
par des professionnels du territoire, les participants regroupés
en fonction de leurs compétences pluridisciplinaires s’engagent
dans des projets de développement local en répondant à
une problématique environnementale ou patrimoniale. Ateliers au
service des territoires, ils offrent une expérience de terrain unique.
Campuses are geared to students and young professional people throughout Europe and the countries of
the Mediterranean. Supervised by local development experts, participants form a multidisciplinary group to
assist local development projects. These field-based workshops offer real professional experience and contribute
solutions to different environmental and heritage-based issues.

du patrimoine
Heritage workshops
Pour les passionnés du patrimoine, les ateliers proposent des
temps de formation aux gestes de restauration et des randonnées
à travers les paysages provençaux ; une manière
originale de participer à la sauvegarde du patrimoine en
pierre sèche, de s’initier à la taille de pierre et de découvrir
la Provence hors des sentiers battus.
Designed for heritage enthusiasts, these workshops offer tuition in different
restoration techniques as well as time to enjoy the Provencal
landscape through organised walks. They are a unique way to participate
in safeguarding dry stone heritage by learning how to work with stone and
to discover the real Provence off the beaten track.

Who we are? The Association for Participation and Regional Action (APARE) and the
Mediterranean Centre of the Environment (CME) offer you an alternative way to spend your holidays
in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and the Mediterranean off the beaten track, far away from the noise
and crowds. This year, as well as the international volunteer workcamps and the Euro-Mediterranean
campuses, there are a couple of new additions:
• Solidarity tourism vacations in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco offered in partnership with a Tour
Operator that combine hiking, discovery and community development projects.
• Week-long heritage workshops in Provence for confirmed enthusiasts wanting to improve their
knowledge and practical skills in restoration.
We look forward to meeting you in 2012 in the land of adventure and volunteer activities…

Chantier adolescent
à thème linguistique
1 Jas des Mélettes
Bedoin, Vaucluse
Le Jas des Mélettes, témoin majeur de l’architecture
agro-pastorale, est l’une des nombreuses bergeries
abandonnées du Ventoux. Le chantier, situé à 1 300
mètres d’altitude au cœur de la cédraie, portera sur le
confortement des maçonneries du jas.
Sur ce chantier, les matinées de travail alterneront en français
et en anglais. Les après-midi s’organiseront autour de cours de
langues, de sorties et d’activités culturelles liées à la découverte du
patrimoine provençal.
15 heures de cours sont prévus, cours de français pour étrangers et cours d’anglais pour
les français, répartis sur 6 après-midi, en petits groupes pour permettre un maximum
d’échanges oraux, avec une méthode basée sur une participation active et une pratique
intense de la conversation. Ils seront encadrés par des professeurs expérimentés et de
langue maternelle.
Pas de stress, pas d’examen, mais la simple volonté de progresser dans la compréhension
et l’utilisation de l’anglais ou du français en groupe !
The Jas des Mélettes is one of a number of abandoned sheepfolds and barns on the slopes of Mt Ventoux,
now a remnant of past agricultural and pastoral architecture. The workcamp takes place at
1,300 m in the heart of a cedar forest and will focus on restoring the load-bearing walls of the barn.
For this bilingual workcamp, work sessions during the morning will alternate between French and
English while the afternoons will be organized around French language lessons for the foreign
participants and English language lessons for the French participants as well as cultural activities
geared to discovering the heritage of Provence.
15 hours of language lessons in small groups are split over 6 afternoons to maximize oral exchanges
using a learning method based on active participation and intense conversational training
with experienced language teachers using their mother tongue.
There’s no stress, no exam, just the simple desire to progress in understanding and using English
or French in a group!

2 Cheminement du vieux village
Redortiers-le-Contadour, Haute-Provence
La commune poursuit la valorisation du vieux village
de Redortiers, site emblématique de l’architecture rurale
locale. L’intervention aura pour objectif de retracer
les ruelles et le cheminement entre l’entrée du
village et le site des aiguiers (réservoirs d’eau).
Redortiers is continuing its efforts to develop the old part
of the village, a site which symbolises the local rural architecture.
This year’s work aims to retrace the lanes and the
route between the entrance to the village and the reservoirs
cut into the stone (aiguiers).

3 Calade de la prison
Monieux, Vaucluse
Monieux, village situé aux portes des gorges de la Nesque,
possède de pittoresques ruelles provençales caladées (pavées).
Celle de « la prison » sera l’objet du chantier pour
reconstituer le caladage qui s’est érodé au fil du temps.
Certaines animations de ce chantier sont organisées
sur les thèmes de l’environnement et du développement
durable.
Monieux is situated at the head of the amazing Nesque
river gorges. It has many picturesque cobblestone alleys
typical of Provencal villages and one in particular,
called “The Prison”, will be the focus of this workcamp.
Some activities during this workcamp will be organised
on the subjects of the environment and sustainable
development.

HAUTE-PROVENCE Des Alpes de Haute-Provence à la Drôme provençale, ces
chantiers se tiennent au cœur d’espaces ruraux, terres des bergers et hauts lieux de la
culture de la lavande.
Haute-Provence – From the Department of the Alpes de Haute Provence to Drôme Provencal, these workcamps
take place in the heart of the countryside; in the land of shepherds and endless fields of lavender.
14 Four traditionnel
Auzet, Haute-Provence
Auzet, village montagnard typique, valorise son
patrimoine naturel et patrimonial, témoin de
son identité et de son histoire. Le chantier portera
sur la réhabilitation d’un four banal au
cœur du hameau de Serre.
Auzet is a typical mountain village. It is looking to
develop its natural and cultural heritage which has so
defined its identity and history. The workcamp will help
restore an oven in the centre of the hamlet of Serre.

15 Calade du village
Montbrun-les-Bains, Drôme
Célèbre station thermale caractérisée par
ses habitations à étages, Montbrun-les-
Bains possède de nombreuses ruelles caladées.
L’intervention portera sur la restauration
d’une de ces calades.
Montbrun-les-Bains is a famous spa town
known for its multi-storey houses. It has many
steep lanes called “calades” in Provence. The
work focuses on one of these “calades”.

d’Azur, à la découverte du patrimoine entre terre et mer.
The Mediterranean – On the shores of the Mediterranean Sea stretching from the Camargue to the Côte
d’Azur, here is the chance to discover heritage between land and sea.
4 Puits de la Bastide de la douane
St-Cyr-sur-Mer, Var
La Bastide, ancienne garnison pour les douaniers, est un bâtiment
du XVIII e siècle d’architecture typiquement provençale, posté le
long du sentier du littoral. Cette année les travaux s’attacheront
à valoriser l’environnement du puits situé à 150 mètres de la
Bastide.
The Bastide is an 18 th Century Provencal building which was used as
a garrison for customs officers stationed along the coastal paths. This
year, work will focus on making environmental improvements to land
surrounding a well situated some 150 metres from the barn.

5 Jas du pape
Grans, Bouches-du-Rhône
Dans un programme global de sauvegarde des ouvrages
en pierre sèche de la commune, Grans confie à l’APARE
la restauration de la voûte du « Jas du pape », bergerie
entourée d’un parc à moutons.
The town of Grans has engaged APARE to coordinate a restoration
programme focusing on the “Jas du Pape”, a barn
with accompanying sheepfolds built of dry stone.

6 Canaux d’adduction des moulins
Miramas, Bouches-du-Rhône
Le parc de l’ancienne Poudrerie royale de Miramas fait l’objet
depuis plusieurs années d’une mise en valeur patrimoniale
et environnementale au titre des espaces naturels protégés.
En préalable à la restauration des moulins à poudre, ce sont
les canaux d’adduction du réseau hydraulique qui seront restaurés.
For several years now, the park of the old Royal gunpowder factory
in Miramas has seen quite a bit of environmental and heritage
restoration thanks to its status as a nature reserve. Prior to
restoration work on the watermills that made gunpowder, the network
of mill races channelling water to the mills must be restored.

11 Appenti du Bastidon
Sillans-la-Cascade, Var
L’APARE est associée avec la municipalité de Sillans-la-Cascade
au projet de restauration d’une bergerie de la fin du XVIII e siècle :
« le Bastidon », future salle polyvalente. Les bénévoles travailleront
sur l’appenti adossé au bâtiment.
APARE has teamed up with the Municipality of Sillans-la-Cascade in a plan
to restore barn called “Le Bastidon” which dates back to the late 18 th century
and which will become a multi-purpose hall. Volunteers will work on an lean-to
outhouse joined to the main building.

13 Parc des berges
La-Penne-sur-Huveaune, Bouches-du-Rhône
12 Château des Castellanne
Salernes, Var
Salernes est un petit village typique de la Provence varoise avec
ses habitations regroupées au pied des vestiges du château des
Castellanne (XIII e siècle). Le chantier portera sur la restauration
de l’enceinte Nord, de la porte Est et l’accès aux terrasses du
château.
Salernes is a small village in the Var Department and typical to this
part of Provence. Its houses are bunched together at the foot of the
ruined 18 th Century Castellanne Castle. The workcamp will help restore
the North facing surrounding walls and the Eastern gate as well as
access to the castle terraces.

La commune de la Penne-sur-Huveaune a entamé un plan de
valorisation et de restauration des berges de l’Huveaune en
créant un parc public. Elle associe l’APARE à cette démarche en
accueillant un chantier qui permettra la rénovation d’un ancien
béal (canal d’irrigation).
The town of la Penne sur Huveaune has launched a programme to restore
and enhance the banks of the River Huveaune to create a public park
called the “Parc des Berges”. It brings in APARE to help in the process with
a workcamp which will work on restoring an ancient irrigation channel (béal).

16 17 Remparts de la Citadelle
Saint-Tropez, Var
La citadelle de St-Tropez, classée Monument historique, est un
bel exemple de fortification bastionnée « pré-Vauban ». Le
chantier poursuivra les travaux de restauration entrepris depuis
14 ans sur le site et portera sur la reprise des maçonneries
des murs du chemin « à couvert ».
The Citadel of St-Tropez is a registered historic monument and a
fine example of a pre-Vauban stronghold with pentagonal fortifications.
The workcamp will continue work started over 14 years
ago on the site, this year focusing on the stonework of the walls in
a covered walkway.

Aux pieds du Ventoux À deux pas du « Géant de Provence » les participants
pourront découvrir les bergeries, terrasses de culture… et paysages exceptionnels de
cet espace classé réserve de biosphère par l’uneSCO.
At the foot of Mont Ventoux – Just a stone’s throw from the “Giant of Provence”, workcamp participants
can discover sheep folds and stone barns, agricultural terraces and the exceptional landscapes
making up this area which is a recognised UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
7 Cabane et murs du Paty
Caromb, Vaucluse
La commune de Caromb a mis en place un circuit de découverte
de l’architecture en pierre sèche sur les collines de
l’espace naturel sensible du Paty. Le chantier portera sur la
restauration d’une cabane et de murets de soutènement.
The village of Caromb has created a tourist trail on the
theme of dry stone construction in the hills of the nearby
Paty nature reserve. The workcamp will restore a dry stone
hut and low dry stone retaining walls.

8 Calade de la cure
Visan, Vaucluse
La commune de Visan mène un programme de valorisation
de ses rues. Les bénévoles réaliseront une calade
en galets locaux au cœur de ce village marqué par
l’histoire des papes.
The historic village of Visan, located in the Enclave of the
Popes, is currently delivering a regeneration programme
for its streets. Volunteers will build a cobblestone lane in
the centre of this village, shaped by the history of the
Popes.

9 10 Ferme de Valescure
Saumane-de-Vaucluse, Vaucluse
La commune de Saumane-de-Vaucluse réhabilite depuis de
nombreuses années le domaine de Valescure, patrimoine agricole
de la fin du XVIII e siècle. En 2012, l’intervention portera
sur la restauration des murs d’enceinte et le captage de la
source à proximité de l’édifice.
Over the last few years, Saumane de Vaucluse has been rehabilitating
the Valescure agricultural estate dating from the late 18 th
Century. In 2012, work will focus on restoring the walls of a compound
and the channelling of water from a spring close to the building.

Maghreb Au-delà du Haut Atlas partez à la rencontre des oueds, lieux de villégiature
privilégiés des tribus berbères et tentez d’apprivoiser ce territoire d’exception.
Maghreb – Journey to the High Atlas to discover wadis, favourite spots frequented by Berber tribes, and
try to take in these unrivalled and extraordinary lands.
18 Zawyat Ahançal – Maroc
Au pied des hauts plateaux du M’Goun, à l’entrée des gorges de
Tharia se trouve la commune de Zawyat Ahançal. Le chantier
visera à aider l’association Khadja à aménager un atelier
boutique de tissage qui permettra d’améliorer le revenu
des femmes du village.
The village of Zawyat Ahançal lies at the foot of the high plateaus
of M’Goun, just at the mouth of the Tharia Gorges. The
aim of the workcamp is to assist the Khadja Association to
develop a weaving workshop and retail space which will help
generate income for local women.
Ce chantier bénéficie de l’aide financière du département de l’Isère
et de la Région de Tadla Azilal, ainsi que du Ministère des Affaires
étrangères. This workcamp benefits from financial support provided
by Isère Departmental Council and the Regional Council of Tadla Azilal
and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

des situations d’urgence, les participants réaliseront un topoguide sur
l’histoire du séisme de 1988 dans la région de Lori. Ce document est
destiné à être diffusé auprès de la population comme outil de sensibilisation
au risque sismique.

patrimoine lié aux risques naturels. Le campus s’attachera à élaborer
un topoguide sur les risques liés aux effondrements de cavités dans
la colline de Cimiez avec applications virtuelles (pour Smartphone et
tablettes).

Il s’agira d’aider l’association du village à créer un lavoir collectif dans un bosquet

Vous participerez au chantier, trois matinées avec la population locale.
L’après-midi, de petites randonnées de découverte vous seront proposées
par le guide Aziz, et une journée entière vous permettra de découvrir le
massif du Toubkal. À la fin du séjour, vous visiterez Marrakech.
This holiday focuses on assisting a village association to build a communal
wash-house in a copse of walnut trees to improve the living conditions of
Berber women.
You will take part in the workcamp for three mornings working with the local
population. The afternoons will be spent on short hikes to discover the surroundings
with our guide, Aziz. You will also be able to spend a whole day discovering
the Toubkal massif. At the end of your stay, you will visit Marrakesh.
Zawyat Ahançal

Vous aiderez l’association Khadja à aménager un atelier boutique de
tissage contribuant à améliorer le revenu des femmes du village.
Vous travaillerez six matinées avec la population locale et partirez les aprèsmidi
pour de petites randonnées encadrées par un guide de montagne.
Vous vous échapperez également pour une grande randonnée de trois
jours dans les hauts plateaux du M’Goun. À la fin du séjour, vous visiterez
Marrakech.
You will assist the Khadja Association to build a weaving workshop and
sales boutique which will help generate income for women in the village.
You will work six mornings with the local population and spend your afternoons
on short hikes accompanied by a mountain guide.
You will also set off on a longer three-day hike on the high plateaus of the
M’Goun massif. At the end of your stay, you will visit Marrakesh.

In the village of Contadour in the Department of Haute Provence where Jean Giono
lived, you will participate in a project to safeguard a dry stone hut associated with Albert
the Shepherd who used it to write about his life is the high summer pastures. Restoration
work will organised in the mornings while the afternoons will be devoted to hikes
in the Montagne de Lure with writer and guide and stone mason, Hubert Blond.
