<strong>The</strong> <strong>Pierre</strong> <strong>Savard</strong> Awards<strong>Pierre</strong> <strong>Savard</strong> (1936-1998), well-known historian, professor and <strong>Canadian</strong>ist, has contributed greatly to<strong>the</strong> development of <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Studies</strong>. He has published several books, held various functions andcollected numerous dist<strong>in</strong>ctions, which have all earned him an <strong>in</strong>ternational reputation. He was amember of <strong>the</strong> Royal Society of Canada (1975), President of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Historical <strong>Association</strong>(1980-1981) and President of <strong>the</strong> ICCS (1983-1985).<strong>The</strong> <strong>Pierre</strong> <strong>Savard</strong> Awards are designed to recognize and promote each year two outstand<strong>in</strong>g scholarlymonographs on a <strong>Canadian</strong> topic, written by members of ICCS associations/associate members and whichcontributes to a better understand<strong>in</strong>g of Canada. <strong>The</strong> awards <strong>for</strong>m part of a strategy that is aimed atpromot<strong>in</strong>g works produced through <strong>the</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Studies</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational network. <strong>The</strong>re are two awards :<strong>the</strong> first recognizes a book written <strong>in</strong> French or English; <strong>the</strong> second a book written <strong>in</strong> an o<strong>the</strong>r language.Book written <strong>in</strong> a language o<strong>the</strong>r than French or EnglishSubmission Guidel<strong>in</strong>esEvery member association or associate member of <strong>the</strong> ICCS can submit each year <strong>the</strong>title of a book that has been published with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> last two years by one of itsmembers.<strong>The</strong> book must be a scholarly monograph deal<strong>in</strong>g ma<strong>in</strong>ly with a <strong>Canadian</strong> topic andwritten <strong>in</strong> a language o<strong>the</strong>r than French or English, by one or more authors.<strong>The</strong> Adjudication Committee of <strong>the</strong> ICCS will act as <strong>the</strong> jury. Its judgment will bebased on assessment reports provided by external reviewers <strong>the</strong> Committee will havecontacted.Books not selected will not be kept on file <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g year. However,associations will have <strong>the</strong> right to re-submit works that have not been selected (aslong as <strong>the</strong> two-year period is not exceeded).<strong>The</strong> <strong>Pierre</strong> <strong>Savard</strong> Awards comprise a document signed by <strong>the</strong> President of <strong>the</strong> ICCSand by <strong>the</strong> President of <strong>the</strong> Adjudication Committee. <strong>The</strong> Awards <strong>in</strong>clude travel andlodg<strong>in</strong>g expenses, <strong>in</strong> order <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> recipients to travel to Canada to officially receive<strong>the</strong> Award at <strong>the</strong> Annual General Meet<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> ICCS.<strong>The</strong> Publisher will be allowed to mention <strong>the</strong> Award <strong>in</strong> any publicity relat<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong>w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g publication.Eligibility RequirementsOnly monographs deal<strong>in</strong>g ma<strong>in</strong>ly with Canada written <strong>in</strong> a language o<strong>the</strong>r thanFrench or English are eligible. Comparative studies will be considered, as well asworks written by more than one author.Collections of poetry, novels, plays, conference proceed<strong>in</strong>gs, reference works, editedbooks, anthologies, bibliographies, etc. will not be eligible. <strong>The</strong> same applies toworks essentially comprised of previously published documents, such as excerptsfrom books or articles.<strong>The</strong> author must be a member <strong>in</strong> good stand<strong>in</strong>g of a member association or of anassociate member of <strong>the</strong> ICCS.<strong>The</strong> application must be <strong>in</strong>troduced by <strong>the</strong> president of a member association orassociate member.An application must conta<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g: a) two copies of <strong>the</strong> book be<strong>in</strong>gsubmitted;b) a two-page abstract <strong>in</strong> French or English; c) a curriculum vitae of <strong>the</strong> author(s); d)a list of five specialists, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g address, university, e-mail, etc., able to provide <strong>in</strong>French or English a detailed assessment of <strong>the</strong> work submitted; e) a letter from <strong>the</strong>president of <strong>the</strong> member association or associate member support<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> submission;and f) complete <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation on <strong>the</strong> publisher.<strong>The</strong> deadl<strong>in</strong>e <strong>for</strong> submission is October 31. Decisions will be announced by April 1 of <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g yearat <strong>the</strong> latest.
