The challenge promotes innovative humanities andsocial science research using large-scale data analysis and challenges the research communityto help create the new research infrastructure needed for the 21st century. The changingresearch landscape in our digital age has called for new techniques to better search, analyze,and understand the vast array of research materials being used and created, including digitizedbooks, newspapers, and music as well as transactional data such as web searches, sensor dataor cell phone records.
