February 2, 2014Dear Parents & Guardians,What a SUPER Catholic Schools Week! The students were really excited by the grade-levelspelling bees. The winners of the grade-level round in Grades 6-8 will compete for the schoolchampion on Friday, February 14. The school champion will then compete regionally, and if s/hewins, it’s on to the state-wide and then perhaps the nationals. We’ll keep you posted. We also hosted some very special guests last week. Barry Burbank from Channel 4 Newsshared weather science with our fourth graders. Mr. Burbank took videos which were shown at 5:15am and 6:15 pm on Channel 4 News. Later in the week, it was our very first GRANDPARENTS’DAY. We received lovely thank you notes from some of our students’ grandparents. So, it lookslike we will be making this an annual event during Catholic Schools Week. Then, on Friday our annual student Talent Show was held in the school gym.Congratulations to sixth grader, John Roper, who directs this KidZ Only! Show for our students. For a number of weeks John, with the assistance of Mrs. Tierney, directs auditions, schedulespractices and hosts the show. Everyone in Grades 3-8 was greatly entertained by the very talentedmusicians, dancers, singers and magicians. It was a wonderful way to end a wonderful week. But, of course, a week-long event like Catholic Schools Week needs much coordination andmany, many volunteers to ensure that all events are well-organized and enjoyable for all. A specialthank you to Mrs. Tierney, whose commitment and skill was responsible for all of the innumerabledetails that make last week such a special one. Thank you, too, to the many volunteers who were sowelcoming and generous in their service to our teachers, staff, students and their familiesthroughout the week. We are so blessed by our school families. Thank you, one and all! This week, Grade 3 students will lead our annual Feast of St. Agatha liturgy on February 5at 9 am. This is always a special Mass and this year, Fr. Brian Kiely, who will become Pastor of St.Agatha Parish on June 3, will concelebrate the liturgy with our parish priests. Fr. Kiely will thentake some time to visit the classrooms. We look forward to meeting Fr. Kiely and sharing theEucharist with him on Wednesday. Finally, I remind you that your concerns and suggestions are always welcome, and I inviteyou to call on me at any time for any reason. In the meantime, I wish you a great week.Sincerely,Maureen C. SimmonsMrs. Maureen C. Simmons, Principal
