REPLACEMENT HANDLES

Materials:
1 replacement handle
2 rivets
How to replace
a shovel handle?
Tools required:
Hammer
File (or grindstone)
Punch
Vise (or similar tool)
Electric drill
1 - Hold the old shovel with a vise or a similar tool in order to file the rivet’s head;
a grindstone can also be used.
2- Using a punch and a hammer, hit the old rivet until it pops out from undermeath.
3- Take out the old handle from the blade.
4- Take out the cap at the end of the replacement handle and locate the rivets that will be used
to assemble the new handle.
5- Insert the new handle into the blade’s socket. With the blade up and the handle down,
push down on the blade until it reaches the shoulder of the handle or until it holds firm.
Make sure that the grip is in line with the blade.
6- With an electric drill, bore a hole through the handle.
7- Drive the rivet through the socket and the handle with a hammer.
8- Hammer the rivet’s head until it is flat, so that it holds firmly in place.
9- File the excess from the rivet to prevent injuries.
You shovel is now as good as new!
