The secrets of the
Code-magicians
TANGIBLE CODING
Innovadores Digitales® is a learning program
whose main objective is to re-signify the notions of
students from public schools in Bogotá around
their community, society, and their role as citizens.
Around 2,000 students ventured in 2017 to operate,
coding and design with emerging technologies (AR,
VR, 360 content and tangible coding), most of the
cases with the installed capacity present in the
schools.
The methodology carried to the classroom works
with gamified activities, in which the work by roles,
the resolution of challenges and the application of
prior knowledge is key to fulfil each mission.
The secrets of the Code-magicians was created to
bring the electronics and design of physical
interfaces "tangible coding" in a student-friendly
manner. This proposal was inspired by the Arthur C.
Clarke’s phrase, that claims any sufficiently
advanced technology is indistinguishable from
magic. To achieve this goal, the creative team
conceived a narrative where the students are
characters in a magical world, and face a number of
significant challenges that involve: the creation of
video games, musical instruments, and
animatronic creatures. These devices relate
learning about: sensors, actuators, and their
programming. At the same time, this technology
becomes an alternative different from the
computer way to design interactive interfaces.
