Dating back to the 12th century, the Mauléon

castle, a few kilometers from Béarn, Navarre

and Spain, soon turned out to be a site of

extreme importance from a strategic point of

view. Standing on a hillside like a balcony

overlooking “La Vallée du Saison” and

benefiting from the 13th century of a bastide, it

was considered in the 15th century as “the

strongest castle in Guyenne”. Inside, an

exhibition traces its tumultuous history.

Unmissable viewing point over Mauléon, the

valley of the Gave, and the Pyrenees.
