peace? Or are you off balance with something? What do you do for fun?

What do you do when something upsets you? How often do things upset

you? Is your life pretty calm and serene, or do you find yourself jumping

from crisis to crisis on an almost daily basis? (Allow silent pause to reflect.)

Perhaps you need help in dealing with stress. Perhaps you find yourself

worrying about things you really have no control over. Maybe you take on

more than you can handle and then stress out when things don’t go the way

you had hoped they would. Perhaps you are out of work, injured, or suffering

from some sort of illness. Whatever the “bad” things are in your life, you

know they are there. You need to learn to correctly identify the problem, and

then find workable solutions for them. Generally, if you are too stressed out,

you don’t have enough fun and play in your life. This goes both ways—when

you don’t take the time to have fun and play, you don’t get the opportunity to

blow off some steam, and so you are more stressed. Always remember to fit

in some good times to balance out the ones that make your life difficult.

It is important to remember that life has its ups and downs. People don’t

want to be sad or miserable or hurt, but it is important to remember there are

lessons to be learned from the events and/or situations that lead to these

feelings.

What are some of the good things going on in your life? Do you have a

supportive spouse or significant other? Great friends? A good job? Do you

do volunteer work to help those who are less fortunate than you? (Allow

silent pause for reflection.) Reminding yourself of your blessings is an

excellent way to bring balance into a stressful life that often feels filled with

negativity. We often forget the good and focus on the bad. When you count

your blessings, you may find you do have balance in your life; the bad really

does not outweigh the good. You may find it is simply where your focus lies

that needs to be adjusted. (Allow brief pause for reflection.) When ready,

give silent thanks for the blessings in your life. Remember that when things

seem bad, you can always return to focusing on your blessings in this way to

achieve greater balance. Take a couple deep breaths, remind yourself of

where you physically are right now, and then gently open your eyes.
