Technologies in The miDDle easT
The green technology global trend has been mirrored in the Middle
East with some 20% of wealthy Arab investors allocating part of
their portfolios to green products and alternative energy, the highest
proportion of any region on the planet.
In the Levant, environmental reforms have paved the way for increased
investment potential in green business and energy development.
• In Jordan, the renewable Energy Law provides interested investors
with 100% tax exemptions for the first 10 years of business
• $655,000 has been granted from the European Union in order to
implement in Lebanon energy audits, energy efficiency standards
and labels, and net-metering throughout the country
As environmental consciousness increases in the Middle East, there
will be strong demand across the board for green and clean products,
from the construction sector or industry, to home appliances, lighting,
paints, water technology and alternative power.
In the Gulf, countries are increasingly channeling their economic
resources into sustainable urban planning projects, such as:
• The $20 billion Masdar City in Abu Dhabi
• The Qatar sustainable Assessment system, the region’s first green
building assessment rating system
