The countries in which each current taxon has been recorded are denoted by 3-character abbreviations,<br />

which follow Hollis & Brummitt 1992 (539), with few exceptions. The name of the country and the Index<br />

Muscorum region to which it is assigned is shown in Appendix 3. The countries are given in alphabetic<br />

order of the abbreviation and not of the country name, which means that some names are slightly out of<br />

sequence - for example, Mauritius (MAU) being listed before Madagascar (MDG). However, the<br />

alphabetic arrangement of abbreviations makes it easier to 'read' the checklist. Literature references are<br />

given in brackets after each country abbreviation, and are translated in the References and Literature<br />

sections following this alphabetic list.<br />
