BUSES: NEW RULES 

TO CIRCULATE BETTER 

In order to improve the movement of coaches and to 

respect the requirements of transport and the 

environment in Rome, the City Council has adopted 

(Resolution n. 37 of 12/04/2010) new rules for the 

circulation and parking in the areas: 

• LTZ 1 - inside the Aurelian Wall and around the 

Vatican City; 

• LTZ 2 - between the G.R.A. and the Aurelian Wall. 

All coaches must display the circulation and parking 

permit, which should be chosen according to the 

requirements of the chosen route. 

The permit can be booked or purchased via our website 

www.agenziamobilita.roma.it or at the 3 check points 

of Aurelia, Ponte Mammolo and Laurentina.

PERMITS 

Types: these can be day, month, six-month or yearly permits, and are different according to the 

circulation and parking areas of interest to the bus service. 

Validity: long-term permits are valid starting on the issue date. 

Rules: permits must display the vehicle registration, length, anti-pollution class, user’s name, and 

it must be visibly displayed on the vehicle. 

A PERMIT 

1-day, 1-month, 6-month or 1-year permit. It gives the right to circulate in LTZ2 

and to the short stay areas (15 minutes) in the authorised areas of LTZ2 (see list) 

B PERMIT 

1-day, 1-month, 6-month or 1-year permit. It gives the right to circulate and to the short stay areas 

(15 minutes) in LTZ1 and LTZ2 where allowed, to circulate in LTZ1 and to the short stay areas in LTZ1 in 

order to allow passengers to board/alight, at hotels,restaurants, tourist facilities, schools, and offices.It 

also allows hourly parking (max. 2 hours) in the special areas (see list). 

C PERMIT 

1-day, 1-month, 6-month or 1-year permit. 

It allows circulation, short stay (up to 15 minutes), hourly stay (up to 2 hours) and long stay (above 2 hours) 

in LTZ2 and LTZ1 in authorised areas. There are a total of 300 “C” permits available per day. 

G PERMIT - MAJOR EVENTS 

1-day permit 

It allows circulation and short stay in LTZ2 in the specified areas and/or in authorised areas. 

E PERMIT - HOTEL SHUTTLES 

Yearly permit. It allows circulation and short stay in LTZ1 and LTZ2 and short stay 

for the time strictly necessary to allow passengers to Board/alight at hotels. 

It also allows the hourly stay (up to 2 hours) in specified areas (see list).

a day 7 days a week. The vehicle’s tachograph can be 

used to measure the time allowed, which is sufficient for 

passengers to board/alight, and must be shown to 

inspectors requesting to see it.

HOW TO BUY PERMITS 

Buying permits is easy but also compulsory to access 

the Bus LTZ of the City of Rome. 

Monthly, six-monthly and yearly permits can be 

requested from the offices of 

Roma Servizi per la Mobilità and can be paid by 

• bank transfer; 

•cashier’s cheque; 

• credit / debit card 

Daily permits can instead be purchased on line on our 

website www.agenziamobilita.roma.it or at the 

Check Points. 

On the website it is possible to purchase permits by: 

• credit card; 

• by previously obtaining a bank or insurance 

guarantee or an escrow deposit (“deposito notarile”) 

to guarantee payment for the purchased permits. 

At the Check Points, permits can be purchased by 

•cash;

Website users that purchase by credit card can also 

buy A and G permits on the day they are required, while

SPECIAL PERMIT 

If the bus needs to get as close as possible to the place 

being visited/destination, it is possible to ask for 

special authorisation if the bus is carrying: 

B and C permits must be bought before 7PM on the 

previous day. 

Users that subscribe to the loyalty programme of Roma 

Servizi per la Mobilità can purchase A, C and G permits 

on the day they are required, while B permits must be 

purchased before 7PM on the previous day. 

Loyalty programme customers may book C permits in 

advance without the need to enter the vehicle 

number, by paying a confirmation deposit of 30 when 

booking. 

The booking will need to be confirmed before 3PM on 

the day before the permit is required. If the booking is 

not confirmed, the deposit will be forfeited. The 

vehicle registration can be added up to 7AM on the 

day the permit is required. 

All booked permits may be cancelled until 3 p.m. the 

day before they are required. Once displayed or 

printed, permits cannot be cancelled or reimbursed. 

Check Point users can buy a permit for the same 

day or for up to 10 days after the purchase date. 

All day permits can be purchased at the Check Points. 

It is possible to purchase any C permits that are 

available from the quota of 300 permits.
