Wegener’s granulomatosis
Granulomatous inflammation involving the respiratory tract,
and necrotizing vasculitis affecting small to medium-sized vessels (capillaries,
venules, arterioles, and arteries).
Necrotizing glomerulonephritis is common
Not only a vasculitis, but also a granulomatous disease
Prevalence: 3/100.000 M=F mean age 41-56 yrs (range: 6-92)
Classic or complete syndrome:
- upper respiratory tract (nose, throat, trachea, paranasal sinuses)
- lower respiratory tract (lung and bronchi)
- kidney
± other manifestations of systemic vasculitis (e.g., skin, neuropathy, joints)
Incomplete syndromes
Usually upper tract without kidney
