Sarà dunque la prima e più grata consonanza l'ottava, essendo che per<br />
ogni percossa che <strong>di</strong>a la corda grave su 'l timpano, l'acuta ne dà due, tal<br />
che amendue vanno a ferire unitamente in una sì, e nell'altra no, delle<br />
vibrazioni <strong>della</strong> corda acuta, sì che <strong>di</strong> tutto 'l numero delle percosse la metà<br />
s'accordano a battere unitamente; ma i colpi delle corde unisone giungon<br />
sempre tutti insieme, e però son come d'una corda sola, né fanno<br />
consonanza.<br />
<strong>La</strong> quinta <strong>di</strong>letta ancora, atteso che per ogni due pulsazioni <strong>della</strong> corda<br />
grave l'acuta ne dà tre, dal che ne séguita che, numerando le vibrazioni<br />
<strong>della</strong> corda acuta, la terza parte <strong>di</strong> tutte s'accordano a battere insieme, cioè<br />
due solitarie s'interpongono tra ogni coppia delle concor<strong>di</strong>; […].<br />

concordemente a percuotere con l'altra <strong>della</strong> corda più grave; tutte l'altre<br />
