Last november 4th. 2011 was successfully<br />
concluded the “in line carton<br />
printing and converting seminar”, organized<br />
by Omet at the "Sonoco Packaging<br />
Institute" in Clemson, South Caroline<br />
(USA).<br />
Seminar was organized by a Team of Printing<br />
and Converting Industry partners, including<br />
Omet Italy and its US Branch, Omet<br />
Americas, in cooperation with the Printing<br />
Technology Team of Clemson University.<br />
This educational Seminar was intended to<br />
provide information on available technologies,<br />
for a viable and cost effective production<br />
of Cartons and other items, using a fully<br />
integrated In Line solutions.<br />
During the sessions, comprehensive information<br />
on available technology and materials<br />
has been provided to the audience, regarding<br />
an alternative solution to traditional<br />
sheet fed offset and off-line die-cutting and<br />
stripping.<br />
After mr. Tonkin (director at Sonoco Institute,<br />
hosting the seminar) introduction speech,<br />
works started with technical presentations<br />
have been provided to explain all the elements<br />
involved, including pre-press.<br />
While Shawk! gave an interesting introduction<br />
on prepress and color management,<br />
topics related to printing plates choice (All<br />
printing resources) rotary dies systems (Rotometrics),<br />
anilox recommendation and selection<br />
(Harper) have been discussed. , while<br />
Environmental Inks provided guidelines on<br />
ink formulations choice according final applications,<br />
for both Uv or water base.<br />
Final session was dedicated to Omet printing,<br />
finishing and converting solutions provided<br />
by the Varyflex Platform.<br />
After the technical session, a printing<br />
demonstration in Clemson's pressroom was<br />
provided to the attendants. Varyflex 21"<br />
press ran a variety of carton substrates, including<br />
10 to 26 pt thick stock.<br />
Alberto Redaelli, Omet International sales<br />
