l’isola dove
splende
sempre il sole

ARodi il sole regna 365 giorni l’anno. Secondo
un’ antico mito, quando gli dèi si
spartirono il mondo tra di loro, il Sole, affascinato,
vide emergere dalle profondità
del mare un’isola talmente bella che
chiese immediatamente a Zeuss che toccasse a lui
quella parte e le diede il nome della sua ninfa preferita,
Rodi. I Romani, I Cavalieri dell’Ordine di San Giovanni,
i Turchi Ottomani, gli Italiani hanno lasciato tracce
evidenti della loro presenza, senza alterare la grecità
dell’isola, la quale fu unificata alla Grecia dopo la
seconda guerra mondiale. I monumenti testimoniano
la sua lunga e tormentata storia, il suo carattere cosmopolita,
le eccellenti infrastrutture turistiche ed i moderni
alberghi possono soddisfare qualsiasi desiderio.
Rodi, ricca di spiagge dorate, di verdi colline e pianure,
monasteri bizantini soddisfa anche i visitatori più
esigenti. A due passi dal centro, si trova l’Acquario, il
principale centro sulla vita marina in Grecia.
Sulla collina di Santo Stefano (o Monte Smith) si trova
l’acropoli dell’antica Rodi. All’interno del parco archeologico
si conserva lo Stadio ellenistico del III sec.
A.C. e sulla cima della collina si trova il Tempio di Apollo,
protettore della città.
Il divertimento notturno è ben sviluppato;si può ballare
o ascoltare musica nei locali sia della “città vecchia”
che nuova, all’interno degli eleganti hotel, ma si può
anche trascorrere una serata all’insegna del divertimento
e del gioco nel nuovo Casinò Rodos.
Lo storico Albergo delle Rose e’ stato trasformato in un

casinò con un’atmosfera signorile e lussuosa. Ma è sicuramente
la storia l’aspetto più importante di Rodi.
La “città vecchia” è un vero spettacolo. Durante il XIV
ed il XV secolo, i Cavalieri dell’Ordine di San Giovanni
ampliarono la città bizantina e ne rafforzarono le fortificazioni,
creando così la “Cittadella Medievale di Rodi”.
Otto porte conducono al suo interno. Quello che appare
é qualcosa di unico e indescrivibile...Un vortice di
vicoli e piccole stradine che si intrecciano tra loro in un
enorme labirinto con un fascino inconsueto e particolarissimo
con negozi che si susseguono su entrambi i
lati. La strada principale e più interessante è la “Via dei
Cavalieri” che conduce al Palazzo del Gran Maestro,
che è l’edificio più imponente.
La “città vecchia”, così come la chiamano gli abitanti
del posto, è una delle città fortificate medievali meglio
conservate ed è stata annoverata dall’UNESCO tra i
monumenti rappresentativi dell’eredità culturale mondiale.
Poco distante c’é la “Porta del Porto”, affiancata
da due torri; oggi il mare non la raggiunge più, ma
in passato, come testimoniano alcuni disegni, sicuramente
la lambiva.
Nel Porto di Mandraki, porto di battaglia dell’antica
Rodi, oggi sono ormeggiate le imbarcazioni private e i
piccoli traghetti che giornalmente collegano Rodi con
Lindos, Symi e le isole limitrofe.
Qui dal porto sono ben visibili, le due colonne che delimitano
l’ingresso al porto, sulla cima delle quali svettano
le statue del “Cervo” e della “Cerva”, simboli della
città. Qui la tradizione colloca il mitologico colosso
di Rodi.
Un altro posto magico che deve assolutamente essere
visitato è Petaloudes, la “valle delle farfalle”, raro
ambiente naturale in cui si riproduce la farfalla Panaria
Quadripunctaria.
Il Comune di Kallithea, oltre che per la spiaggia di Fa-

“Terme” che erano famose
dall’antichità per le
acque di colore rossastro
che sgorgavano dalla
roccia e avevano proprietà
benefiche per la
salute. Gli edifici sono
stati restaurati e sono
state riaperte nel luglio
del 2007. All’interno si
assapora ancora la caratteristica
atmosfera nei
momenti di massimo
splendore. Qui sono stati
girati diversi film sia al
suo interno che all’esterno,
tra i protagonisti principali
Roger Moore, Adriano Celentano, Anthony Quinn.
Capo Ladikò o Baia di Anthony Quinn, si trova subito dopo Faliraki. Questo nome
deriva dal fatto che il governo, ai tempi del film “Zorba il greco”, aveva regalato
la baia al popolare attore. La scalinata che consente di raggiungere la baia, comincia
proprio dal parcheggio. L’acqua é straordinaria. Anche la nostra amatissima
attrice Elena Sofia Ricci, con la figlia e i genitori ogni anno trascorrono il mese
di Agosto proprio qui, soggiornando nell’Hotel Ladiko.
La spiaggia di Afandoù è una delle più celebri di tutta l’isola. Vicino al mare è stato
costruito il moderno campo da golf 18 buche in funzione tutto l’anno.
Lindos, patria del saggio tiranno Cleobulo, è affascinante con le sue case bianchissime,
le residenze dei capitani, le stradine acciottolate e la maestosa acropoli, raggiungibile
anche prendendo in affitto un asinello in piazza. Lindos è ricca di negozi
di ogni genere che rimangono aperti fino a tardi, ristoranti di lusso, bar, night-club.
Vicino a Lindos si trova una delle spiagge più belle di Rodi: Kalathosi.
L’isola di Rodi dispone di un grande aeroporto internazionale, è collegata con quasi
tutte le capitali europee con voli charter, mentre una rete fitta di trasporti marittimi
e aerei la connette con tutte le isole del dodecaneso, Pireo, Thessalonico.

mythe, when Gods divided
world among them,
Sun, fascinated, saw a
very beautiful isle which
was emerging from sea
and asked it to Zeus giving
it his preferred
nymph’s name, Rodi.
Romans, Saint James
Order Knights, Turkish Optomans, Italians left evident
traces of their presence, without changing the Greek
isle aspect, which was united to Greece after the Second
World War. Monuments testify its long and tormented
history, its cosmopolitan character, the excellent
touristic infrastructures and the modern hotels
can satisfy every wish.
Rodi, rich in golden beaches, green hills and plains,
byzantine monasteries satisfies the most exigent visitors
too. Next to the center You can find Aquarius, the
principal location about sea life in Greece.
On Saint Stephen hill (or Smith Mountain) there’s the
ancient Rodi acropolis. Inner the archaeological park
the III° century a.C. ellenistic stadium is conserved
and on the hill top there’s Apollo Temple, the city pro-
tector. Night entertainment is well developed:
You can dance or listen to
music in the locals either of the old
city, or in the new ones, inner the elegant
hotels, but it’s possible to spend
an evening on the sight of amusement
and play in the new Rodos Casinò
too. The historical Roses Hotel
was transformed in a casinò with a
refined and luxury atmosphere.
But history is surely the most important
Rodi aspect. The “old city” is a
real show: during the XIV and XV centuries
, Saint James Order Knights
widened the byzantine city and
strengthened fortifications, creating
the “Rodi Medieval Little City”.
Eight doors lead to inner and what
You can admire is unique and undescribed:
a little streets and alleies vortex
which interweave among them in
a very wide labyrinth with a new and
particular charm, with many shops that follow one
other on both sides. The main and most interesting
street is “Knight Street” which leads to Great Master
Palace, the most imposing building.
The “old city”, just like the local inhabitants call it, is
one of the medieval fortified cities better conserved
and it was signaled by Unesco among the representative
monuments of the world cultural inheritance. In
the nearby You can visit the “Port Door”, bordered by
two towers; in our days sea doesn’t reach it more, but
in the past, like some pictures testify, surely it licked it.
In Mandraki Port, battle port of the ancient Rodi, today
private crafts and little ferryboats which daily link
Rodi with Lindos, Symi and the next isles are moored
and from it it’s possible to see the two columns which

limit the access to port, on whose top “Cerf “ and
“Cerfess” statues raise, city symbols. Here tradition
puts the Rodi mythological colox.
Another magic place to visit is Petaloudes, the “butterflies
valley”, rare natural environment where the Panaria
Quadripunctaria butterfly reproduces itself.
Kallithea Town Council, besides for Faliraki beach, is
important for thermal baths which were famous in the
ancient times for the red waters that gushed out from
rock and had benefit properties for health. Buildings
were restored and open again in July 2007. In the inner

Ladikò Cape or Anthony Quinn Bay is immediately after Faliraki. This name derives
from the fact that Government, at “Zorba the Greek” film times, gave as a present
the bay to the popular actor. The staircase which allows to reach bay starts from
the parking lot. Water is extraordinary, and our very beloved actress Elena Sofia
Ricci, with her daughter and parents, every year spend August month here, at
Ladiko Hotel.
Afandou beach is one of the most popular in the isle and near the sea the modern
golf field 18 holes was built (it’s open all year).
Lindos, Cleobulo wise tyrant’s homeland, is fascinating with its white houses, captains’
residences, the little streets in cobblestones and the majestic acropolis,
reachable renting a young ass in the square. It’s rich in shops of every kind open
until late hour, luxury restaurants, bars, night-clubs.
Near Lindos You can find one of the most beautiful Rodi beaches: Kalathosi.
The isle is equipped of a great international airport, is linked with most all European
capitals with charter flights, while a thick network of sea and air transports unites
it with all Dodecaneso isles, Pireo, Thessalonico.
