La presenza sempre più numerosa di musicisti, provenienti da tutto il mondo, che partecipano alle “Giornate della 

Percussione”, unico Concorso internazionale in Italia specifico per questi Strumenti, testimonia l’importanza e 

l’eccellenza di questa manifestazione. Le “Giornate della Percussione,”alla loro settima edizione, non solo permettono un 

confronto di alto profilo musicale e compositivo, ma consentono anche di poter fruire di una offerta formativa prestigiosa. I 

Masters ed i Concerti in programma offrono infatti la grande opportunità di avvicinarsi a Docenti ed Artisti di fama internazionale, 

eccezionalmente insieme, che, proprio per la loro alta professionalità e la loro esperienza, non possono non arricchire 

ulteriormente i profili di studio ed artistici dei partecipanti. Le “Giornate della Percussione” sono, per il Conservatorio 

“ G.B.Pergolesi” che le accoglie presso la sua sede e le sostiene, un momento importante non solo perché questa iniziativa 

si definisce come “unica” in Italia ma soprattutto perché, quale Ente di Alta Formazione, vede concretizzarsi, attraverso il 

loro programma, l’obiettivo reale della “formazione” che nasce anche dalla qualità del confronto e dallo scambio culturale, 

elementi questi che delle “Giornate”sono l’anima. Per la città di Fermo e per la Provincia esse rappresentano infine un 

appuntamento musicale di grande rilievo che va ad inserirsi in un progetto culturale di ampio respiro, che vede il Conservatorio 

sempre più presente sul territorio. 

The always increasing presence of musicians from all over the world that participate in the “Days of Percussion”, 

the only specific international Competition in Italy for these Instruments, testifies to the importance and excellence 

of this event. At their seventh edition, the “Percussion Days” not only allow a high-profile, musical and compositional 

contest, but also allow the possibility of benefiting from a prestigious, formative offer. In fact, the planned Masters Courses 

and Concerts offer the great opportunity of approaching internationally famous Teachers and Artists, exceptionally together, 

who, precisely because of their great professionalism and experience, can only further enrich the study and artistic 

profiles of the participants. For the “G. B. Pergolesi” Conservatoire which receives The “Days of Percussion” on its premises 

and supports them, they are an important moment not only because this initiative is defined as “unique” in Italy but 

above all because, as a Top Formation Body, it sees the real aim of the “formation” realized by means of their programme, 

which also springs from the quality of the contest and cultural exchange, which elements are the soul of the “Days”. Finally, 

they represent a musical appointment of great importance for the city of Fermo and the Province, which fits into a wideranging 

cultural project, that finds the Conservatoire more and more present in our territory.

Dal 7 al 12 settembre 2009 si svolgerà la settima edizione delle “Giornate della Percussione” 

articolata in due importanti eventi: la Competizione ed il Festival. Anche quest’anno 

si preannuncia un appuntamento molto ricco e intenso di attività. Ringrazio e saluto tutti gli artisti 

presenti nel nostro Istituto che, con la loro presenza, rendono questo evento ancora più prestigioso. 

I partecipanti iscritti, che quest’anno superano le 100 unità, provengono, oltre che da numerosi Conservatori 

italiani, anche da diverse nazioni europee e non. Questa partecipazione testimonia l’ampio 

respiro raggiunto dalla settimana della percussione, grazie al responsabile - il M° Antonio Santangelo 

docente di percussione del nostro Conservatorio nonché Presidente della PAS italiana - che con 

passione e impegno sta dedicando tempo ed energie per la buona riuscita dell’evento. In queste 

“giornate” ci sarà il confronto delle diverse metodologie di insegnamento tra docenti di numerose 

scuole e sarà quindi l’occasione per tutti i giovani partecipanti di arricchirsi didatticamente e umanamente. 

Sono lieta di poter offrire agli allievi del Conservatorio di Fermo una tale opportunità, che 

certamente unita alla fatica organizzativa, contribuisce a farli crescere da un punto di vista esecutivo 

ed interpretativo. 

From 7th to 12th September 2009 the seventh edition of the “Days of Percussion” will take place, articulated 

in two important events: the Competition and the Festival. This year, too, this appointment promises to 

be very rich and intense in activity. I thank and greet all the artists present in our Institute who, by their presence, 

make this event even more prestigious. Besides coming from numerous Italian Conservatoires, the enrolled participants, 

that exceed 100 units this year, also come from several European nations and non. This participation testifies 

to the wide range reached by the percussion week, thanks to the person in charge – Master Antonio Santangelo, a 

percussion teacher in our Conservatoire as well as President of the Italian PAS – who is devoting time and energy 

with passion and dedication for the success of the event. In these “days”, there will be a comparison between 

the various teaching methods among teachers of numerous schools and, therefore, it will be the occasion for all 

the young participants to be enriched educationally and humanly. I am happy to be able to offer all the Fermo 

Conservatoire students such an opportunity, which certainly, together with the organizational work, contributes to 

making them grow from a performance and interpretative point of view.

in dal 1985, quando iniziai ad organizzare il primo concorso, con l’obbiettivo di far conoscere molti giovani 

Fche si dedicano con tanta passione allo studio delle percussioni e far eseguire in Italia musiche dedicate a 

questa straordinaria famiglia di strumenti, sognavo di vedere nella lista dei partecipanti il n. 100. Ho aspettato quasi 30 

anni, tanti quanti sono i miei anni di insegnamento, per coronare questo sogno; se penso che ancora oggi nel 2009 questo 

è l’unico Concorso in Italia dedicato alle Percussioni, sono ancora più felice di aver caparbiamente creduto nel mio 

progetto e di averlo portato avanti superando tantissime difficoltà. Solo grazie all’amore per le percussioni, che la mia 

famiglia, da mio nonno a mio padre mi hanno trasmesso, e al mio Maestro Stefano Morellina che ha inculcato in me la 

mentalità di pensare sempre ai giovani, sono riuscito ad arrivare a questo risultato. A proposito di giovani, nel compilare 

una scheda informativa ministeriale sul mio Concorso, dove mi si chiedeva di elencare i nomi dei vincitori delle passate 

edizioni e i loro ruoli attuali; incredibile ma vero, mi sono accorto, guardando nell’archivio, che i quasi 30 ex ragazzi che 

hanno vinto i miei concorsi, ricoprono oggi il ruolo di Docenti di Conservatori italiani ed esteri o ruoli di percussionisti di 

orchestre prestigiose. Questo è stato possibile anche grazie alle istituzioni, dall’Academia Vibinensis di Bovino (Foggia), 

con il M° Don Aldo Chiappinelli, al Conservatorio “Pergolesi” con il Presidente Dott.ssa Nella Brambatti e il Direttore 

M° Silvia Santarelli che hanno creduto e credono in questo progetto. In questa edizione ho inserito anche una categoria 

dedicata ai giovanissimi (fino a 16 anni) per dare loro la possibilità di essere ascoltati in una competizione internazionale. 

A giudicare dalla numerosa partecipazione, credo che avremo modo di apprezzare e scoprire nuovi e giovanissimi talenti. 

Voglio ringraziare chi da anni mi supporta e sopporta, mia moglie Maria Vittorio percussionista e docente e mia figlia 

Francesca; insieme riescono a risolvere le numerose problematiche organizzative di queste “giornate. Ringrazio e saluto 

tutti gli Artisti che con il loro bagaglio artistico musicale riusciranno ad arricchire questo evento e tutti i partecipanti che 

hanno creduto in questa competizione; a loro un grandissimo “in bocca al lupo”. Questo Festival Internazionale è possibile 

anche grazie all’autorevole supporto della Percussive Arts Society (USA) con il suo Presidente Steve Houghton. 

Un particolare ringraziamento alla collega Prof.ssa Maria Conti, pianista ufficiale della competizione che con grande 

professionalità svolge un ruolo importante 

e delicato in questo contesto internazionale; 

ai miei “preziosi” allievi che contribuiscono 

attivamente alla riuscita della 

manifestazione e agli “amici” sponsor 

che con il loro supporto contribuiscono a 

realizzare anche questa edizione.

ver since 1985 when I began 

to organize the first competition, 

with the aim of making known many 

young people who devote themselves 

with so much passion to the study of 

percussion instruments and of getting 

carried out in Italy music dedicated to 

this extraordinary family of instruments, 

I have dreamt of seeing the number 100 

in the list of participants. I waited for almost 

30 years, as many as my years of 

teaching, to crown this dream; when I 

think that still today in 2009 this is the 

only Competition in Italy dedicated to Percussion instruments, I am even happier to have stubbornly believed in my 

project and to have worked at it overcoming very many difficulties. 

Only thanks to the love for percussion instruments which my family, from my grandfather to my father, transmitted to me, 

and to my Master Stefano Morellina who inculcated in me the mentality of always thinking of young people, have I managed 

to reach this result. Speaking of young people, in compiling a ministerial informative report on my Competition, 

where I was asked to list the names of the winners of the past editions and their present-day roles, it is incredible but 

true, I realized, looking in the files, that the almost 30 former youngsters that have won my competitions, today have the 

role of Italian and foreign Conservatoire Teachers or percussionist roles in prestigious orchestras. 

This has been possible also thanks to the institutions, from the Vibinensis Academy in Bovino (Foggia), with Master Don 

Aldo Chiappinelli, to the “Pergolesi” Conservatoire with the President Dr. Nella Brambatti and the Director, Master Silvia 

Santarelli, who believed and believe in this project. In this edition, I have also inserted a category dedicated to very 

young people (up to 16 years of age) to give them the possibility of being listened to in an international competition. 

Judging by the large participation, I think we will have the possibility of appreciating and discovering new, very young 

talents. I want to thank the person who has sustained me and put up with me for years, my wife Maria Vittorio, percussionist 

and teacher, and my daughter Francesca; together they manage to solve the numerous organizational problems 

of these “days”. I thank and greet all the Artists who, with their artistic, musical wealth, will succeed in enriching this 

event, and all the participants who have believed in this competition; a great “Good Luck” to them. This International 

Festival is possible also thanks to the authoritative support of the Percussive Arts Society (USA) with its President Steve 

Houghton. Particular thanks to my colleague/teacher Maria Conti, the competition’s official pianist who, with great 

professional competence, carries out an important, delicate role in this international context; to my “precious” students 

who actively contribute to the success of the event and to my sponsor “friends” who, with their support, contribute to 

the realization of this edition too.
