With its 72 plants for treating municipaland special wastes, the <strong>Hera</strong> Group has the mostlarge and spread plant network, not only on anational scale.In accordance with the Ronchi Act (Lgs. D. 22/97),it ensures self-sufficiency in the Optimum TerritorialEnvironment (ATO) district.Furthermore, in the field of recovery and recyclingof materials from waste, it has actuated, with greatsuccess, the operation management of servicesand plants in collaboration with both public andprivate partners.Within the Italian scene, which is affected bya significant lack of infrastructures in the field ofwaste management, <strong>Hera</strong> Group represents a caseof excellence, being able to manage the completerange of waste treatments.• 30 plants for the treatment of municipaland special wastes;• 18 material recovery plants;• 15 plants for disposal of non-hazardous waste;• 7 waste-to-energy plants;• 2 plants for disposal of hazardous waste.Quality certificationIn 2004, <strong>Hera</strong> Group obtained the UNI ENISO 14001 Environmental Certification for theEnvironment Division and the Quality CertificationISO 9001:2000. In addition, for the EnvironmentDivision it has initiated the process for the EMASregistration of all its plant sites.SelectionIt includes the management of plants forthe selection of municipal solid waste fromdifferentiated mono-material and multi-materialcollection and special solid waste collected fromproduction sites. The selection aims at recoveringmaterials that can be re-used in production cycles.SeparationMechanical systems are used for the separationof the dry and humid fractions of the differentiatedmunicipal solid waste collection.The materials are treated so they can be deliveredfor their correct recovery: the humid fractions aredelivered to biostabilisation and composting plants,the metals to production sector Consortia, the dryfractions (glass, paper/cardboard, metals, plastic)are transferred to the specialized production sectorConsortia and the non-recoverable dry fractionsare delivered to the waste-to-energy cycle.
