aSt ItalIaL’Associazione Sclerosi Tuberosa onlus è un’Associazione senzafini di lucro nata a Roma nel Maggio 1997 su iniziativa di alcunefamiglie con bambini affetti da sclerosi tuberosa e medici,con lo scopo di unire le forze per supportare la ricercascientifica e di diffondere la conoscenza della malattia. Neglianni, grazie alla volontà e al lavoro degli associati, l’AST ècresciuta notevolmente: oggi sono numerose le persone avario titolo impegnate nell’Associazione che contribuisconoalla maggiore conoscenza della patologia e sono sempre dipiù i centri medici nelle regioni italiane che si possono considerare”esperti” e conoscitori di questa malattia.Col passare del tempo gli obiettivi statutari dell’AST si sonoampliati e sempre più strutturati e ad oggi si possono riassumerein:• supporto alle persone con ST, ai familiari, i medici e glioperatori che a vario titolo sono impegnati nella curadelle persone affette dalla patologia;• sostegno alla ricerca scientifica e sociale per approfondirele cause della ST, ricercarne le terapie più efficaci, promuovereprogetti innovativi di RETE utili alle famiglie eai professionisti dedicati;• promozione della conoscenza della ST, formazione e scambiodelle informazioni relative;• la promozione dei diritti, le pari opportunità e l’integrazionedelle persone con disagio nella società.• trovare una cura.Le attività associative si sono diversificate e strutturate neltempo e il supporto a tali attivitàsi esplica grazie al contributo volontariodei suoi associati: un ringraziamentova a tutti loro.Un particolare ringraziamento va aCarla Fladrowski per l'impegno e il contributodato per il Congresso 2012.Carla FladrowskiAsT ITALyThe Italian TSC Association was founded in Rome in May 1997by a handful of families with children affected by TSC and someof their Physicians. It is a not for profit making Organisation.The aim of the Association is to support families in coping witheveryday issues related to TSC, find not just an adequate solution,but perhaps the right solution for the many medical, psychologicaland welfare requirements; support scientific researchand build up awareness on Tuberous Sclerosis Complex alongthe way. Over the past few years “AST” has grown considerablyand thanks to the contribution of many of our Associates,people from different backgrounds have joined forces to spreadthe word and increase knowledge on Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.The number of Medical Centres with Doctors and experts in thefield of TSC in the various regions of Italy has increased significantly.Over time the Statues and goals of AST have also changedstructure and today are aimed at:• Supporting people affected with TSC and all those involvedin the care of people with this rare disease; families, operators,doctors etc.;• Supporting and funding social and scientific research; investigatingthe causes of TSC, identifying the most efficient and innovativetherapies; promoting networking projects which areusful to both families and dedicated professionals;• Raising awareness on TSC and empowerment through trainingand exchanging information;• Promoting Legal rights; equal opportunities, integration ineducation and in the workplace.• Finding a cure.The association is a live entity which is constantly evolving.
