Questi risultati preliminari riflettono la letteratura esistente sui bambini che sono stati esposti ad eventi traumatici, indicando<br />
che un’alta percentuale di giovani in età scolastica presenta sintomi del disturbo post-traumatico da stress. Il più importante<br />
studio sugli effetti dei tragici eventi dell’ 11 settembre è del Ministero dell’Educazione di New York (maggio 2002) che<br />
indica che dei 75.000 studenti selezionati, 7.875 (10.5%) presentava disturbo post-traumatico da stress, mentre 11.250<br />
(15%) presentava sintomi agorafobici.<br />
I risultati preliminari del nostro studio sono più salienti perché sono significativamente più alti rispetto a quelli dello studio<br />
del Ministero dell’Educazione di New York. In aggiunta, questi risultati indicano che i tragici eventi del World Trade Center<br />
hanno avuto un effetto drammatico e duraturo(oltre quattro anni) sui bambini in età scolastica latini, che sembrano maggiormente<br />
vulnerabili agli eventi traumatici, come gli attacchi terroristici dell’11 settembre.<br />
Riguardo alle due modalità di trattamento (cognitivo-comportamentale e narrativo TEMAS) usate nello studio del Lutheran<br />
Medicai Center Clinica di Salute Mentale, ci si aspetta che il trattamento narrativo TEMAS, basato empiricamente e culturalmente<br />
competente, sarà ugualmente se non maggiormente efficace rispetto alla terapia cognitivo-comportamentale nel<br />
migliorare la sintomatologia di questa popolazione.<br />
