ARANDO TRA ARTE ORAFA E SCULTURA
Arando. Goldsmith's art and sculpture
Nella vita artistica del maestro Rando,
il movimento pervade ogni lembo
della sua opera, divenendo un filo
conduttore riconoscibile in tutti i
lavori che lo scultore ha realizzato in
oltre trent’anni di attività.
Sculture vive, coriacee, dinamiche,
vengono sintetizzati attraverso
un unico codice stilistico, innovativo e
memorabile. Al maestro Antonino
Rando va riconosciuta una straordinaria
capacità di generazione di senso,
In Arando's artistic life, the movement
pervades every part of his
work as a recognizable thread
always present in more than 30
years of activity. Living and
dynamic sculptures as expression
of a new outlook and style to
describe the world. Subjects as hug,
mother, dance, freedom and
loneliness belong to an only
stylistic, innovatory and memorable
“Niente è più rivelatore del movimento”
"Nothing is more revealing than the movement."
l’abilità di creare sculture e monili
fortemente evocativi, in grado di
connotare lo spazio che vanno ad
occupare in maniera decisa ed
appagante, grazie anche alla loro alta
valenza estetica. Non solo, per primo,
il maestro Rando ha saputo traslare il
linguaggio tipico di una forma
espressiva come l’arte contemporanea,
all’interno di un mondo
certamente meno turbolento, come
quello del gioiello, creando grazie a
questa contaminazione qualcosa di
assolutamente unico, un’oggetto
capace di essere prezioso e di
adornare il corpo di una donna
ma allo stesso tempo dotato delle
code. Master Antonino Rando has
the great aesthetic ability to create
evocative sculpture and jewels
which are able to give a
satisfacting connotation wherever
they are. Moreover, master Rando
knows how to convey the typical
eloquent language of modern art in
a calmer world as the one of
jewels. He creates something
unique, a precious object as a work
caratteristiche di un’opera d’arte.
Ogni gioello viene così pensato e
disegnato dal maestro, per essere poi
rifinito dalle mani di capaci orafi
all’interno delle officine Arando,
attraverso processi che rispettano le
più antiche tradizioni delle botteghe
orafe, valorizzando e rispettando una
tradizione di enorme valore.
Monili in oro ottenuti attraverso la
tecnica della cera persa, lavorati
completamente a mano, pezzo per
pezzo e per questo multipli unici,
esperienza e sinstesi come segno del
nostro tempo.
of art which adorns woman's body.
Every jewel is thought like this:
master Rando draws it, his staff of
artisans carry out the piece, in
total respect for the most ancient
goldsmith's tradition. Arando's firm
uses the old "cire perdue"
technique; every jewels are
handmade, piece by piece, in order
to leave a mark in our time.

DISEGNO CONCEZIONE ORIGINALE DEL MONDO
TRADIZIONE IL VALORE DEL METODO
Tradition. The value of method
An ancient technique as the melting of noble metal.
A far knowledge handed down till nowadays.
A capable hand in every movement.
METALLI PREZIOSI TEMPRATI DA MANI ESPERTE
Precious metal. Hardened by expert hands
“L'arte non riproduce ciò che è visibile, ma rende visibile ciò che non sempre lo è.”
"Art does not reproduce what is visible but makes visible what is not always so."
E’ incredibilmente suggestivo vedere
come dal metallo grezzo, seppur nobile,
prendano forma i gioielli Arando.
circa in appositi crogioli, sapientemente
parallela, dopo aver creato l’opera in cera
refrattario, riempiendo in pochissimi secondi
It is incredibly suggestive to watch how
Arando's jewel shape up from the raw and
even precious metal. It all starts by melting
gold, which taken to the highest temperature
approximately 1000/1090 degrees in
suitable crucibles, masterly combined with
other metals to confer to it the colour, the
hardness and the right, it solidifies into the
cast iron moulding boxes getting the shape
of a raw ingot.Through a parallel working, after
having created the work of art in wax
sectioned over numerous parts, the same is
mounted into a small tree shape paying
attention that every element is connected
through wax sticks: the small tree produced
is inserted into a steel cylinder and covered
with casting of refractory chalk whose
temperature will subsequently be raised to
700 degrees, in a suitable oven to burn out
the wax and create a vacuum inside the
chalk. At this stage the gold is liquefied and
poured into the refractory cylinder, filling up
within a few seconds the emptiness left by
the wax (from which derives the definition of
nella stessa forma e modellatura fatta in
cera. Il cilindro ancora caldo viene immerso
nell’acqua, che reagendo alla temperatura
del gesso, lo scioglie, liberando l’alberello
d’oro e distruggendo così l’impronta che
si era creata nel cilindro refrattario.
Purtroppo può però anche accadere che
il metallo presenti delle imperfezioni di
fusione, ciò porta inevitabilmente alla
distruzione del pezzo ed al suo conseguente
rifacimento, di modo che possano arrivare
alle fasi successive di lavorazione, solo
fusioni perfette. E’ a questo punto che
inizia il lavoro degli orafi: “tagliando,
limando, saldando le varie parti del pezzo,
sino ad arrivare a comporre il gioiello
finale”, ovviamente sempre seguendo i disegni,
"lost-wax "process) by solidifying itself into
the same shape and modelling made by the
wax. The hot cylinder is immerged into the
water which by reacting to the chalk
temperature, melts it, thus freeing the golden
tree and thus destroying the imprint which
formerly created inside the refractory cylinder.
It might happen, unfortunately, that the
metal presents some melting imperfections
which would inevitably result in the
destruction of the article which, therefore,
has to be remade so that only perfectly
melted items can be accepted to get to the
next working phases. It is at this stage that
the goldsmiths' work starts: by cutting, filing
and soldering the various parts of the article
until the production of the final jewel,
obviously always following the Master
Rando's indications who attentively supervises
every working phase. Only when assured of
having a completely suitable jewel, from the
thickness to the weight, from the shape to
the anatomic wearability to the colour up to
the softness of the raw surfaces, it will be
anch’essa effettuata artigianalmente e che
permette di rendere specchianti le superfici
piane, eliminando tutti i segni delle lavorazioni
precedenti. L’intero processo assorbe
molto tempo e nonostante la rigida
selezione che accompagna i gioielli alla
fase di lucidatura, può ancora avvenire che
emergano dei piccoli difetti che obblighino
gli orafi alla distruzione ed al rifacimento
dell’opera anche in questa fase, aumentando
ulteriormente i costi di produzione, ma
garantendo nel contempo un’eccellenza
assoluta. Il gioiello dopo un ultimo
controllo del maestro RANDO, viene
dichiarato finito ed è quindi pronto per
essere indossato e goduto. La manifattura
così curata ed attenta è ben lontana dai
canoni delle produzioni industriali
computerizzate che riproducono a basso
costo ed in pochissimo tempo migliaia di
esemplari, ma privi d’anima, un’anima
che solo la partecipazione manuale
dell’artigiano sa trasmettere.
possible to pass to the crafty polishing stage,
eliminating all previous working marks.
The whole process requires a lot of time and,
notwithstanding the rather demanding
selection which the jewels are subjected to,
it could still be possible that during the
polishing process some minute faults may
emerge, thus forcing the goldsmiths to
destroy, even at this stage, and restart the
manufacturing process anew. This would
cause an increase in the production costs
but it would, nevertheless, guarantee a jewel
of absolute excellence. Following a final
check by Master Rando the jewel is declared
ready to be worn and enjoyed. Such an
attentive and careful manufacturing process
is rather far detached from the
computerized industrial criteria productions
with a low costs high volume output devoid
of any feelings; something that only an
artisan can instil in his product.

ma comporta anche dei costi di
produzione altrettanto alti.
guaranteed as perfect.

"L'attesa attenua le passioni mediocri e aumenta quelle più grandi."
"The wait reduces small passions and increases the big ones."
"The value of a work of art depends on the artist's spent time." (Apollinaire)
Ogni gioiello è sintesi estrema di stile,
ricerca, tecnica, portabilità, eleganza,
unicità, tutti valori legati all’identità del
straordinario tenore artistico.
Attraverso la tematizzazione dei propri
gioielli Arando compie un percorso
originale, nel quale reinterpreta
concetti chiave della nostra società,
esprimendo per mezzo dei suoi
oggetti parte del proprio essere e del
proprio modo di vedere il mondo.
Indossare uno di questi gioielli è
diverso dall’indossarne qualunque
altro, a qualunque genere esso possa
Each jewel is an
ensemble of style, research, technique,
wearability, elegance and uniqueness.
These values are closely linked to the
master's identity and that of his staff in
order to create jewels of rare beauty
and an extraordinary artistic level. By
following certain themes through his
jewels, Arando walks down an original
path, in which he reinterprets key
concepts found in our society. Through
his objects, he expresses a part of
himself and of his outlook of the world.
To wear one of these jewels is different
from wearing any other, no matter from
where it hails, as they possess a soul.
Their ultimate goal is not that of
adorning a woman's body, or being an
indication of wealth, but that of expressing
a way of being and of interpreting the
world that surrounds us.

IL PERCORSO TEMATICO Insieme, invocazione,
sorpresa, solitudine, mamma,
danza, urlo, abbraccio; questi sono
solo alcuni dei molti temi affrontati
dal maestro Rando lungo il suo fortunato
percorso artistico, ognuno di
essi è rappresentativo di uno stato
d’animo e possiede una valenza universale,
poichè si rapporta ad ogni
uomo ed ad ogni donna nello stesso
modo. Ciò che stupisce è la capacità
con cui Rando ha saputo intrappolare
almeno una parte dell’essenza di
questi stati d’animo, nei suoi gioielli,
donando a chiunque li indossi la possibilità
di rivivere delle emozioni tanto
intense. THEMES. Togetherness, invocation,
surprise, solitude, mother, dancing,
shouting, embracing: these are some of
the many themes which Rando has
used along his very fortunate artistic
path. Each one of these themes
represents a state of mind and
possesses a universal value, for it relates
to every man and woman in the same
way. What is astounding is the ability
with which Rando has managed to
capture in his jewels at least a part of
the essence of these moods, thus
passing onto those who wear them the
possibility of reliving such intense
feelings.
"So we are men and we don't know how:
there is anything in us which can exist without us, and will exist also after us."
"Così noi siamo uomini e non sappiamo come:
c'è qualcosa in noi che può esistere senza di noi e che esisterà dopo di noi."
"I pensieri si coagulano nel cuore se non vengono espressi.
Ciò che vediamo è il ramo tremolante dal quale ha appena spiccato il volo."
"Thoughts cease flowing into the heart if they aren't expressed.
“Quando un'opera sembra in anticipo sul suo tempo,
è vero invece che il tempo è in ritardo rispetto all'opera."
"When a work of art seems to be ahead of its time, it is because time is not up-to-date with it."
riportano esclusivamente all’interno
dei loro quadranti i temi più
ricorrenti del maestro. Prodotti
sempre in tirature limitate, come la
collezione in oro da 99 multipli,
gli orologi Arando conservano tutte
le peculiarità dei gioielli attraverso
forme semplici o complesse, classiche o
innovative. Bracciali dove cassa e
quadrante sono assorbiti in un unico
elemento scultoreo o versioni più
classiche dove l’orologio semplice
nella forma esalta il quadrante scolpito.
Indossare un orologio Arando in
entrambe le soluzioni significa uscire
dagli standard dell’orologeria moderna,
per arrivare a portare sul proprio
polso qualcosa di più facilmente
assimilabile ad una piccola e preziosa
scultura segna tempo, che ad un
orologio nel senso letterale della
parola. Measuring of time has always
interested Master RANDO, so his
watches are all handmade and their
faces show his most well-known
themes. They are limited editions, as the
collection of watches in gold where
characteristics of his jewels as simple or
complex shapes, new or classical.
There are bracelets where case and
face are melted in the same sculpture
or more classical versions with sculpted
faces and watch strap in skin.
Arando's watches go over the standard
idea of modern watchmaking: on your
wrist you are wearing a small precious
timeless sculpture.

Sculptures and dynamism. Master's stroke
“Due visi affiancati, sguardi profondi, corpi uniti e
fusi nell’essere unico che si identifica nella coppia."
Le sculture del maestro Rando
emanano vibrazioni. Alla vista, rapiscono
per un momento la mente, nel
tentativo di interpretarne il significato.
Sono opere capaci di imporsi nello
spazio, fisico e mentale, dominanti,
slanciate, dinamiche, esprimono il
tratto dello scultore e la sua maestria,
dimensione, forma, materia e colore
diventano elementi da decifrare per
comprendere ciò che così fiero si
erge dinnanzi agli occhi. Come i suoi
gioielli anche le sue sculture
possiedono un loro spirito, un loro
modo di essere e di comunicare con
il mondo, un loro modo di rappre-
"Two faces side by side, deep gazes, bodies united as one."
esistono. Segno prima che elemento
materico, emozione prima che oggetto
d’arredo, passione prima che senso
estetico, unicità in senso assoluto.
Rando's sculptures spread vibrations.
On sight, they momentarily capture your
mind to try and interpret its meaning.
They are able to stand out both in
physical and mental space, they are
predominant, slender and dynamic.They
express the stroke of a master and his
skill. Size, shape, material and colour
become elements to decipher in order
to understand what so proudly stands
forth before one's eyes. As his jewels,
also Rando's sculptures possess their
own soul, a way of being and communicating
with the world, their own way of
representing the moods which generated
them and upon which they are based.
It is first and foremost a sign before a
material element, feelings before a
piece of furniture,
passion before
an aesthetic
sense.
