“LA VIGNA DEL SIGNORE E LA CASA D’ISRAELE”
XXVII Domenica del Tempo Ordinario
La vigna è nella Bibbia un simbolo trasparente di
Israele e della sua storia. Una storia di salvezza
che se è ampliata fino a raggiungere I confine
della terra. Anche di noi, uomini e donne del
nostro tempo, il Signore ha fatto la sua vigna
privilegiata: si prende cura di tutti e di ognuno e
nulla tralascia perchè portiamo frutti copiosi. Il
profeta Isaia (I Lettura) esprime la delusion di Dio
nei confronti del suo popolo: scelto per
un’alleanza d’amore, per debolezza è venuto
meno al patto. Anche l’uomo di ogni tempo è
solito rispondere negativamente alla fiducia che
Dio ripone in lui. È la constatazione di un disagio
che percorre la storia: con l’uva buona e matura
la vigna potrebbe dare anche uve selvatiche e
acerbe
San Paolo (II Lettura) si augura che la comunità
cristiana di Filippi risponda alle attese del Signore
(Gesù con fiducia, migliorando la proprio
condotta. Così potrà portare frutti copiosi di opere
buone. La parabola dei vignaioli (Vangelo) fa
riferimento agli eventi della passione e morte del
Redentore. Ci viene proposta perchè non ci
facciamo illusioni, rivendicando diritti di proprietà
sulla salvezza che è e resta un dono di Dio.

27 th Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells a harsh and bloody
story that makes a direct and uncompromising point.
It must have sent a chill down the spines of his
unhappy listeners. After all, who would like being
compared to thieves and murderers? Who would
like to be told they are going to lose everything?
Almost 2000 years later, we can still feel that
uncomfortable chill. And that shouldn’t be
surprising, for Jesus is speaking just as much to us
now as he was to those standing right in front of him
in the Temple then. When he says, “the kingdom of
God will be taken away from you,” he is looking at
us, too.
Jesus’ message might be painfully clear, but he also
never shuts the door. In the very same sentence,
he adds that God’s kingdom will be “given to a
people that produces the fruits of the kingdom.”
But what are the fruits of the kingdom and how can
we become the kind of people who produce them?
Luckily, Paul offers some help today in his letter to
the Christians of Philippi. He tells them: Don’t worry;
pray and ask God for help; then act honourably,
justly and with a pure heart.
And if we plant and tend these fruits of the kingdom,
we will taste their sweetness at harvest time – “the
peace of God, which surpasses all understanding.”

CATECHISM – SACRAMENTAL
PREPARATION NOTICE:
Please note we will be starting our Pre-­‐school, First Holy
Communion and Confirmation Preparation classes beginning
on Sunday, October 16 th , 2011 at 9:20 am sharp. The classes
will run until April 15, 2012. We have a very good
reputation for preparing our children for these precious
sacraments, and we encourage all parents with children
wishing to receive their First Holy Communion and
Confirmation to register. The parish is also offering pre-­‐
school catechism classes for children between the ages of 4
– 6 years. The pre-­‐school classes will run at the same time
as the sacramental preparation classes. To register your

cost for the programs are as follows:

Please be advised that after a number of
years of break, we are increasing our Parish
bulletin advertising fee. From January 1,
2012, a regular advertisement will be $ 300
a square per year.

Caring Hands of CFIC Children’s Mission. Help
the Helpless-in India through a number of caring
centres. The CFIC Community of our priests Fr.
James and Fr. Joby, in India is taking care of
more than 250 children who are either physically
or mentally challenged, poor, abandoned or
orphaned. You too can be a part of this Great

Edmonton Prolife
This year Edmonton Prolife will hold its Life Chain on
Sunday, October 2, from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Life Chain
will begin at the intersection of 104 Ave and 109 St.
(near the downtown campus of Grant McEwan College)
and run west along 104th Ave. to 124th Street and then
north on 124th St. to the Morgentaler Clinic at 109A
Ave.Our goal is to have each block of the route filled
with approximately 12 people. We are asking your
church to join Edmonton prolife and commit to fill a
block or more! Life Chain is open to groups and
individuals. Go to any of these intersections to pick up
signs 15 minutes prior to Life Chain beginning. 111

Annual Archdiocesan Youth Rally
This event gathers hundreds of junior high and senior
high students (ages 12-­‐18, Grades 7-­‐12) from across
the Archdiocese of Edmonton for a day that features a
dynamic speaker and musical group, opening prayer
by Archbishop Richard Smith, lunch, supper, Mass,
activities throughout the day, and ends with a dance in
the evening. This year we welcome Michael Chiasson
and his presentation “Give.” Music provided by a
young, up-­‐and-­‐coming Catholic group, FX of Grace. It all
takes place Saturday, October 15, at Archbishop
O'Leary High School, 8760 -­‐ 132 Avenue, Edmonton.

CCCB Message to Young Catholics on Social
Justice
In light of the International Year of Youth proclaimed by the
General Assembly of the United Nations (2010-­‐ 2011) and the
recent World Youth Day that took place in Madrid, the
Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace of the Canadian
Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a message of hope
