“CHI DEI DUE HA COMPIUTO LA VOLONTA DEL PADRE?”
XXVI Domenica del Tempo Ordinario
Comportamenti sconcertanti o linguaggi
scardinati, ipocrisie e sincerità nascoste, creano
incomunicabilità tra le generazioni. Figli
apparentemente sereni che nascondono
insoddisfazioni e rifiuti e figli con atteggiamento
ribelli, ma capaci di generosità e di disponibilità:
due tipi diversi di risposta all’invito che Dio rivolge
a tutti, di andare “a lavorare nella vigna”. La voce
di Cristo richiama alla conversione e all’impegno
(Vangelo), sia il figlio che è chiuso nel formalism
religioso e nel vuoto interiore, nascondendo
ostilità, vergogne e menzogne, chiamato a
riassumere il coraggio di un “si” sintetico e vero,
sia il figlio ribelle, purchè percorra strade nuove e
si liberi dei “no” reali e apparenti.
Il Vangelo di questa Domenica è per tutti un invito
a credere nell’uomo Nonostante tutto, a
scommettere nelle possibilità di ciascuna, anche
se a volte I nostri occhi vedono solo una dignità
venuta meno a causa del peccato, ma che mai
spegne l’amore di Dio, ad accettare il mesaggio di
Cristo, avere I suoi stessi sentimenti (II Lettura),
Egli che è stato l’uomo del “si” radicale, senza
ripensamenti e dubbi.

26 th Sunday in Ordinary Time
At a recent meeting we were naming the personal
qualities we were looking for in a search to fill an
important position. The first quality mentioned was
“follow-through…she has to have follow-through.”
All of us appreciate those people who actually do
what they say they are going to do. We can trust
them and depend on them.
In today’s gospel Jesus describes two kinds of
people – those who say “no” at first but then do it,
and those who say “yes” and don’t follow through In
the end, it is those who do God’s will who will be
judged as righteous. Jesus reminds us that we
might be surprised at those we meet in God’s
kingdom. Tax collectors and prostitutes don’t seem
like likely candidates. What about drug dealers and
crooked politicians in our day? How do they line up
against the more religious, law-abiding citizens?
As we celebrate the eucharist, we are a gathering of
all kinds of people who are here for all kinds of
reasons. It is not for us to judge each other’s
motivation. What is essential is that all of us are
embraced by the unconditional love and mercy of
the Creator and by Jesus whose eternal “yes”
liberates us to live in the Spirit.

Preparation classes beginning on Sunday,
October 16 th , 2011 at 9:20 am sharp. The
classes will run until April 15, 2012. We have
a very good reputation for preparing our
children for these precious sacraments, and
we encourage all parents with children
wishing to receive their First Holy Communion
and Confirmation to register. The parish is
also offering pre-­‐school catechism classes for
children between the ages of 4 – 6 years. The
pre-­‐school classes will run at the same time as

This year Edmonton Prolife will hold its Life Chain on
Sunday, October 2, from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Life Chain will
begin at the intersection of 104 Ave and 109 St. (near the
downtown campus of Grant McEwan College) and run west
along 104th Ave. to 124th Street and then north on 124th St.
to the Morgentaler Clinic at 109A Ave.
Our goal is to have each block of the route filled with
approximately 12 people. We are asking your church to join
Edmonton prolife and commit to fill a block or more! Life
Chain is open to groups and individuals. Go to any of these
intersections to pick up signs 15 minutes prior to Life Chain

Today Catholic communities across our
country are involved in the annual collection
which supports the pastoral work of our
Bishops nationally and internationally -- the
Bishops’ Collection for the Needs of the
Church in Canada. It
is in the interest of all the Church in Canada for
this collection to be as effective as possible.
The Church needs to maintain its services in
order to carry out its mission at the heart of our
world, by responding to pastoral needs and
providing spiritual leadership. Founded more
than 66 years ago, the Canadian Conference
of Catholic Bishops is the assembly of all the
Catholic Bishops of our country, including the
Bishops of the Eastern Catholic Churches. The
Conference is the forum where our Bishops
discuss their ministry, the life of the Church
and the major issues of the day. In addition to
assisting the Bishops in their collaborative
relationship with Pope Benedict XVI and the
various offices of the Holy See, the CCCB
works closely with other Episcopal
Conferences around the world, and in
particular with those in the Americas.

Catholic Sisters' Legacy Recognition
Wednesday, September 28
All parishioners are welcome at the September 28
celebrations, which will begin at 9 a.m. with the
unveiling and dedication of a special tribute to the
Sisters on the grounds of the Alberta Legislature,
followed by the Mass at St. Joseph's Basilica at 10:30
a.m. The celebrations will recognize how Albertans
have benefited from the Sisters' care, compassion and
resourcefulness for over 150 years.
Annual Archdiocesan Youth Rally
This event gathers hundreds of junior high and
senior high students (ages 12-­‐18, Grades 7-­‐12)
from across the Archdiocese of Edmonton for a day
that features a dynamic speaker and musical group,
opening prayer by Archbishop Richard Smith,
lunch, supper, Mass, activities throughout the day,
and ends with a dance in the evening. This year we
welcome Michael Chiasson and his presentation
“Give.” Music provided by a young, up-­‐and-­‐coming
Catholic group, FX of Grace. It all takes place
Saturday, October 15, at Archbishop O'Leary High
School, 8760 -­‐ 132 Avenue, Edmonton. Cost is $50
