The device geometry allows a user to be comfortable in any situation — walking, sitting at a table, resting in an armchair, or lying on a sofa. The corrosion-resistant casing, strengthened by an aluminium-magnesium stiffening rib, consists of quality white plastic with an elegant gloss. At the Showstoppers@ IFA media event, USbased Improv Electronics launched the Boogie Board Rip LCD Writing Tablet, the newest in a growing line of paperless, environmentfriendly, non-PC eWriters. The new Rip tablet (Rip stands for ‘Record image. Preserve.’) combines the paper-less writing of Boogie Boards with the ability to save notes or illustrations in the tablet’s internal memory, and even transfer them to a PC through a micro USB port. The Boogie Board uses LCD technology from its parent company, Kent Displays, whose ‘Reflex No Power LCDs’ have allowed the eWriters to emerge as a new non-PC device category. The original Boogie Boards, launched in the US and Japan in 2010, offered writing and erasing features, but were storage-less. The storage-ready Rip tablet’s paper-saving and soft touch material that feels like rubber. This surface offers exceptional resistance, so users can hold the device firmly in hand. Yet when holding this multimedia reader, users can avoid touching the active display area because the buttons are designed to prevent accidental pressing. Pocketbook A 10” weighs in at 670 grams. The display exterior and placement of control buttons, and media outs, give testimony to both ergonomics and smart minimalism. The colour multi-touch 10” display is designed for reading as well as for watching HD video. The display features 1024x768 pixels and 262,000 colour shades. productivity benefits could impact on education and workplace environments, where note-taking activities are prominent. Consumers could use it to replace paper note blocks, loose-leaf paper, work books, essay books, composition books and sketch pads. Like other Boogie Board tablets, Rip also serves as a replacement for write-once media: memo pads, sticky notes and dry erase boards. The built-in accelerator enables change of display at 90, 180 and 270 degrees. Based on an Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread OS, Pocketbook International has added its own original interface, a library, a video player and a launcher. Built-in memory is 4GB and supported by an SD slot for memory cards up to 32GB. The manufacturer says the user can get about 6.5 hours of work (with mixed activity) or 6 hours of non-stop video with the Pocketbook A 10” battery. Hall 17 Stand 121 surface (diagonal), a thin, durable and lightweight all-plastic construction, an integrated stylus holder, an erase lock button and rechargeable batteries that last more than a week between charges. With integrated software, the Boogie Board Rip tablet requires no power to generate or retain an image, and only a small amount to erase, save or upload stored files to a computer.
